Description

S. H. KNIGHT.
DISPENSING FAUCET.
APPLICATION FILED SEPT. 26, I919- Patented Nov. 25,1919.
InUe/ ufor" I l I I STANLEY H. KNIGHT, or CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
DISPENSING-FAUCET.
Application filed September 26, 1919.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, STANLEY KNIGHT, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Chicago, in the county of Cook, State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dispensing Faucets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to that type of dispensing faucet-s on which means are pro vided for supplying a quantity of syrup or the like, through the faucet when required, an example of which constitutes the subject matter of my prior application for Letters Patent, Serial No. 300,808, filed May 31, 1919. And the present improvement has for its object To provide a structural formation and association of parts whereby a quantity of syrup or the like can be conveniently obtained and discharged through the outlet neck of the faucet and into the drinking glass or goblet in which the beverages from a soda fountain. or the like is dispensed, and in which the flow of syrup'is controlled by a movement of the glass or goblet, all as will hereinafter more fully appear.
The accompanying drawing is a central vertical sectional elevation of a' soda fountain dispensing faucet, embodying the preferred construction of the present invention.
Referring to the drawing, 1 designates the usual controlling valve or faucet of a soda fountain, of any usual and suitable construction, preferably of the semi-rotary type shown, and provided with an upright operating handle 2, and with a screw-threaded outlet neck 3 at its lower end, said outlet neck terminating in a depending discharge nozzle 4 as shown.
5 designates a circular head having a central screw-threaded neck 6 fitting the aforesaid faucet ncck 3, and provided with a mar ginal screw-threaded flange 7 for the attachment of the receiving hopper or vessel hereinafter described, and with a syrup controlling valve structure as follows 8 designates an inlet neck on the top side of the head 5, connected with the supply tank of the syrup or other fluid to be dispensed and having a passage communicating with the chamber of a valve housing 9 that extends down from the bottom Side of head 5 and is positioned to one side of the attaching neck 6 as shown.
10 designates an annular bushing fixedly Specification of Letters Patent.

secured in the lower end of the valve housing 9 and providing a seat for the movable valve member or head now to be described.
11 designates the above referred to movable valve member or head, associated with the upper side of the'bushing or valve seat 10, and having an upper guide stem 12 moving in a guide orifice in the valve housing 9, and vith a lower operating stem 13 extending; down below the valve housing 9 for operative engagement with the receiving hopper or vessel now to be described.
14 designates a receiving hopper or vessel, preferably of glass or like transparent material, and provided with an outlet neck 15 at bottom and with an out-turned annular flange 16 at its upper and open end for attachment in a vertically movable manner to the aforesaid circular head, by means hereinafter described. In the preferred form of the present invention the receiving hopper 14: is formed with an internal annular ledge 17 which in an upward movementrof the hopper is adapted to contact with the lower stem 13 of the valve head 11 and raise the same from its seat and permit a flow of syrup into the hopper or vessel 14:.
18 designates a coupling sleeve screwed upon the marginal flange 7 of the circular head 5 aforesaid, and provided at its lower end with an inturned annular flange 18 adapted to engage beneath the out-turned flange 16 of the hopper 14: to maintain the same in operative relation to the circular head 5 aforesaid, and in the present construction a space 19 is left between the upper end of the hopper 1e and the under face of the head 5 as shown, to permit limited independent vertical movement of said hopper 14 and the operation and control of the movable valve head 11 as above set forth.
20 designates an operating cross-head fixedly secured to the outlet neck 15 of the hopper 14:, with its cross-arms 21 extending in either side of said neck and adapted to receive an upward movement as the attendant presses the margin of a dispensing glass or goblet upwardly against said arms.
Having thus fully described my said invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a dispensing faucet, the combination of a main supply controlling faucet, a sec ondary supply controlling valve, a receiving hopper associated with said. faucet and valve, a vertically IIIOVlIlg crosshead associated with the lower end of said hopper, and means moving in unison with said crosshead and operatively connected to the secondary supply controlling valve aforesaid, substantially as set forth.
2. In a dispensing faucet, the combination of a main supply controlling faucet, having a circular head at its outlet end, a secondary' supply controlling valve associated with said circular head, a receiving'hopper attached in a vertically movable manner to said circular head and provided with means for operating said secondary supply controlling valve, and an operating cross-head associated with said hopper, substantiallyas set forth. 7
3. In a dispensing faucet, the combination of a main supply, controlling faucet, having a circular head at its outlet end, a secondary supply controlling valve associated with said circular head, a' receiving, hopper formed with an out-turned flange at its upper end, a coupling sleeve engaging the margin of the aforesaid circular head and having an inturned flange engaging beneath the out-turned flange of the hopper to permit limited vertical movement of said hopper,
ing valvehead, a receiving hopper formed with an out-turned flange at its upper end and with an internal annular ledge for operative engagement with the aforesaid vertically moving valve head, a coupling sleeve engaging the margin of the aforesaid circular head and having an inturned flange en gaging beneath the out-turned flange of the hopper to permit limited vertical movement of said hopper, and an operating cross-head associated with said hopper, substantially as set forth.
Signed at Chicago, Illinois, of September, 1919.
