To all whom it may concern:

Be it known thatI, Ln ROY G. Lewis, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Paul, in the county of Ramsey and State of Minnesota, have invented new and useful Improvements in Humidifiers, of which the following is a specification.

The object of my invention is to provide an economical, compact and serviceable device for moistening the atmosphere in heated rooms.

water radiator, and is so constructed and used as to be inconspicuous to the occupants of a room, yet readily accessible and removable for refilling and cleansing.

Another object is to supply in a cheap device of this character a large evaporating surface, whereby the efficiency of the device is promoted.

These and other objects will more fully hereinafter appear in this specification.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of my device; Fig. 2 is a section on the line 22 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a section on the line 33 of Fig. 1; and Fig. 4 is a perspective view of my device.

Generally the device comprises a water reservoir adapted to be suspended on the rear side of a radiator and equipped with a large evaporating surface composed of suitable absorbent fabric, preferably textile or knit goods, moistened by water in said reservoir through capillary attraction.

Referring to the drawings, wherein I have more specifically illustrated my invention, it will be seen that the body portion of my humidifier comprises a rectangular section of sheet metal having two right-angledfolds 9 and 10 (Fig. 2) in the lower end thereof. Said folds divide the body of the device into three portions, viz: a front wall. 11, bottom 12 and back 13 parallel to said front wall 11. The ends of the body are bent'at rightangles to provide internal flanges 14 upon which end walls 15 are soldered to form a watertight reservoir. The top edges of the two end walls 15 and front wall 11 are folded downward to form reinforcing ribs 16. As seen in the drawings, the back 13 rises above the reservoir, and the end flanges thereon are shaped into tubular beads 17 which encircle wire reinforcements 18. A horizontal bead 19 is formed along the upper margin of the back- 13 and a wire bail- Specification of Letters Patent.

20 is passed therethrough with its projecting ends turned backward and shaped into hooks 21 for engaging the tie-rods or nipple connections uniting the sections of a radiator. The bail 20 is rotatable in the bead 19 and the hooks 21 may be turned downwardly and spread apart to lie adjacent to the ends of the reservoir for packing or storage.

A plurality of V-shaped incisions are stamped in the top of the back 13 and the metal clips formed thereby are bent forward to provide upwardly directed hooks 23 adapted to support a piece of loosely woven or knitted fabric 22 which substantially lines the back 13 and extends to the bottom of the reservoir; said fabric being easily removable for cleansing or replacement. The

and by capillary attraction the portion thereof above the water is maintained in moist condition.

humidifier may be mentioned its compact-v ness, cheapness and simplicity of construction and the ease with which 1t may be malntained in a sanitary conditlon. Noteworthy features reside in the easy detachment of the fabric by simply lifting from the hooks 23 for cleansing or renewal, and in the collapsi bility of the bail to permit compactness in packing for storage or shipment.

Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:

Ina device of the class described, a reservoir, an integral wall projecting thereabove, a marginal bead on the top of said wall, a bail freely passing therethrongh and formed with rearwardly-directed hooked ends adj acent the outer edges of said wall, upwardly directed clips integral with said wall, and an absorbent fabric suspended by said clips, to line said wall and extending to the bottom of said reservoir.
