This object is achieved .by providing the upper and lower edges respectively of the rail with two balls, each adapted to support travel and each adapted to serve as thebase of the rail, said edges being'reversible in position, so that when one ball becomes too worn for use as a support for the car wheels, the rail may-be reversed and the worn ball be employed as the base of the rail. My invention provides further a novel chair which is arranged to support and clamp either ball of my improved rail.

My invention provides still further a rail chair of novel construction, which is provided with means of adjustment so as to be adapted to hold rails of different widths.

The novel features of my invention are hereinafter fully described'and claimed.

adapted to receive and support either of the balls 2, and a clamping wedge member 5.which is adapted to clamp the adjacent side of either ball 2 and which is provided with an upwardly extending arm 6 adapted to clamp the adjacent side of the web 1 and which is providedwithone or more horizon tal longitudinal slots 7 adapted to receive bolts 8 which extend throughvertical slots 9 in the web 1. Said bolts 8 also extend-through transverse holes 10 provided in an upwardly extending arm 11 on the member 3. .The

arm 11 isadapted to clamp the adjacent side of the web 1 and the holes 10 are disposed in register with the slots ,9 and 7 The bolts 8 are providedrespectively with nuts '12 whichbear against the arm 6.

The outer side of the member 5 is provided with an inclined surface 13 disposed at an angle to the web 1 and which is adapted to fit against a similarly inclined surface 11 provided at the-inner side of an upwardly extending arm 15 provided on the upper side of the member 3. As shown in 1, the arm 15 is provided with a longitudinal shoulder 16 adapted to ,fitin the groove 17 provided in the member '5. This shoulder prevents the member 5 from any upward movement in the member 3. V
