EGG-TESTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 25, 1919.
v Application filed February 17, 1919. Serial No. 277,412.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE BRANDER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sutherland, in the county of OBrien and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Egg-Testers, of
It is also an object of the invention to provide a device of this general character whereby a tray is employed provided with egg openings and beneath which openings is arranged a light-containing chamber together with a supplemental tray to receive the bad eggs.
An additional object of the invention is to provide a novel and improved tester of this general character wherein the eggs be ing tested have their longitudinal axes substantially horizontally disposed so that a more effective test may be obtained.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved egg tester whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of my invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure l is a longitudinal vertical sectional view of an egg tester embodying my invention; and
Fig. 2 is a top plan view thereof.
As disclosed in the accompanying drawings, T denotes a bottom tray or pan adapted to be positioned upon a suitable support, and which is defined by the outstanding marginal flanges 1.
As herein embodied, the tray or pan T -is rectangular in form and secured to the corner portions thereofare the upstanding posts 2 secured at their upper end portions to a second tray or pan T.
The pan T is also defined by upstanding marginal flanges 3. The tray or pan T adjacent an end at substantially its transverse center is provided with a pair of slots 4 which: are adapted to receive the eggs to be tested, and the major axis of each of said slots is such to permit the longitudinal axes of three eggs to be substantially horizontally disposed within said slot so that the testing thereof may be materially facilitated. The longitudinal margins defining each of the openings 4: are substantially in parallelism, so that during a candling operation the eggs arranged within said opening may be readily rotated about their longitudinal axes, in order to efiect a thorough testing of the eggs H denotes a housing preferably formed of metal and which is secured to the under surface of the tray or pan T and which housing 1s arranged below the slots 1-. The
' outer end 5 of the housing H is removable,
and for which reason said removable end 5 has its side marginal portions and lower margins defined by the outstanding flanges 6 provided with openings 7 adapted to register with openings 8 in the outer end of the walls of the housing H and through which registering openings the holding bolts 10 are directed. A r
Secured to the inner face ofthe removable end 5 is a blockell to which is secured a conventional type of socket 12 for the electric lamp L. The socket 12 has suitably connected thereto the conductors 14: also suitably connected with the plug 15 and which plug is adapted to be engaged with a sui able source of electrical energy. The lamp L is of the well known incandescent type and when applied within the housing H is venient place to put the bad eggs while testing so that very fast work can be obtalned because two candlers may be employed with each device at the same time, one of said candlers applying the eggs to and from the slots 4, while the second party removes the good eggs from the upper trayor pan T and applies the same within a 7 it may be assembled and operated, and it will also be obvious that my'invention is susceptible of some change and modification without departing from the principles and spirit thereof, and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as here- 20 inafte r claimed.
q I claim An egg tester including a tray provided with a slot of a length to receivea plurality of'eggs, whereby the eggs may be-arranged 25 within the slot with their axes substantially longitudinally alined and rotated about their axes, and means vfor directing light through the opening. 1 1
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my 80 signature in the presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE BRANDER.
