Be itknown that vl, HARUionI Kenmo- GAWA, a subjectof the'llmperor` of Japan, a resident ofthe United States, in the city of Portland, the county of Multnomah, and State offOregom-haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Necktie-Forms, and do hereby declare thatthe following is a full, clear, and eXact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of the specification, and to the letters and numbers of reference marked thereon.

This invention relates more particularly to that class of neckties known as four-inhand, and a means of attaching and removing them from the wearer without untying same. Y Y

The object of this invention is to provide a simple and rapid means of attaching a necktie to a collar and to render untying unnecessary, which fact it is intended shall increase the life of the fabric.

It isa further object of this invention to facilitate the adjustment of the tie, particularly in that style of collar known as double or lay-down collars where it is difhcult to adjust the ordinary four-in-hand tie, as the neck-band of the tie is difficult of adjustment as'it frequently sticks in the fold of the collar, whereas in my invention the band is putin place in the collar before the collar is put on, and when the collar is put on and fastened to the' shirt the body of the tie hereinafter described is slipped in place and adjusted on the free ends of the neckband, without the necessity of moving the band inthe collar. However, it is not my intention to limit my invention to the style of collar hereindescribed,` but it may be used on any ordinary stand-up or wing collar. in which case the tie is put on after the collar is fastened to the shirt.

Referring to the accompanying drawing, Figure l is a front and side elevation of my device; Fig. 2 shows the device having a neck band of a tie threaded through the eyes and clamp of the device; Fig. 3 shows a tie made up on a wire form; Fig. 4 shows a tie on a straight collar; Fig. 5 shows a tie attached to a double or lay-down collar; Fig. 6 is a side elevation showing a tie attached to a collar which is partly cut away; Fig'. 7 isa rear elevation showing the relation between a necktie, the form and a band for securing same to a collar.

A1 is a spring form for a tie in which the spring loop A2 serves to guide the neck band as well as to furnish more spring to the form; On the free ends of form A1 are thumb grips A3 whose function it is-to'receive pressure from the thumb and forefinger causing clampA to open. Clamp A4' is produced by the two free ends of form A1 being crossed and twisted at their point of contact for the purpose of securing the free ends of the neck band, which have previously been passed through spring loops A2. B1 is an ordinary four-in-hand necktie. B2 is a separate neckband having two free ends.

The operation of my device is as follows: A neck band with two narrow ends is threaded through eyes A2 and the clamp or opening A1 while enlarging it by applying pressure with the lingers at A3 in the direction of the arrows. It vwill be noticed that as long as the pressure is applied at A3 that the neck band ends canmove easily through A?, but as soon as releasedv the yjaws clasp the strings firmly in any desired position.

Ak four-in-hand tie is now tied upon the form without having to pass around the wearers neck.A The neck band is now slipped into the collar and adjusted to a central position on the collar, which is afterwardV fastened on the shirt and the neck band string pulled while pressing thumb grips A3, which are released when the tie is in proper position when the tie will be securely held in place.

lt will be observed that in adjusting the neck band to the collar the operation is performed before the collar is put on the shirt, which permits the band to slip easily through the collar folds, after which it is unnecessary to move the neck' band through the collar folds, since the adjustment of the tie to the collar is accomplished by moving both ends of the neckband through the tie. Whereas in the existing method one end of the band is secured to thecollar and the other end passes around the collar and back through the tie knot, it is apparent that no adjustment can be. secured without sliding the neck band portion which is now securely held by the buttoned collar and requiring undue attention on the parts to effect the adjustment.
