JOHN H. EFFRIG, 0F PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
IDENTIFICATION DEVICE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN H. EFFRIG, a
citizen of the United States, residing in Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Identification Devices, of which the following is a specification.
One object of my invention is to provide an identification device which can be issued by an identification company and which will form a positive and conclusive means of identifying a person who, for example, has registered with and is known by the identification company.
Another object is to provide my improved identification device with an integral and inseparable photographic portrait and other characteristic features of the individual to whom the device is issued.
A further object is to provide my identification device with a serial number or reference marking to which the individual can refer so as to enable him to have duplicates of the device issued by the identification company above noted so that the du licate can be used, for example, in the les'of a bank or other company or organization with which the said individual has business. For example, identification devices, such as above described can be lodged or filed in banks, bonding companies or other institutions to which the individual may apply for credit, drawing of account or other business, and so that the above mentioned institutions will be rotected against imposters or persons witli fraudulent intent.
These objects, and other advantageous ends which will be described hereinafter, I attain in the following manner, reference being had to the accompanying drawings in which The figure of drawing represents a face view of my improved identification device.
Referring to the drawing, the device shown therein represents a photographic reproduction of a similar device and may be made on a sheet 1 of paper or card board having its upper surface 2 sensitized so as to receive photographic impressions, such as the well known photostatic? print. The sheet 1 is preferably made of such size that it can be filed in an ordinary filing cabinet so that access can easily be had theretoand,
Specification of Letters Patent.
. I Patented Nov. 18 1919.
Application filed May 20, 1919. Serial No. 298,544.
a thumb print 6 and finger prints 7. of the person or individual to whom the device is 1s sued. The parts above the space 5 are divided into separate spaces having, as lllllS- trated, the date of registration, the telephone number, the business, address, by whom introduced, color of hair, height, complexlon, welght and age of said individual.
The section 4 has thereon the authorized I signature of said individual in the space 8 and a reproduction of a card 9, said reproduction of the card including within its margin a photographic portrait 10 of the individual, a photographic reproduction 11 of the thumb print of the individual, the photographic reproduction 12 of the signature of the individual and the serial numher or reference markimg, as shown at 13. The reproduction 9 if desired, for example by said individual, can be severed from the section at. by cutting along the lines 14 and 15. Thus the individual can present the severed reproduction 9, for example to the bank, bonding company, etc., who'has a reproduction of the entire device in its files, and the bank, for example, can compare the severed reproduction with the reproduction which it has, on its files together with an inspection of the personpresenting the same and by this means the individual can be completely identified in a convenient and positive manner. If there is any doubt as to the similarity of the-photographic reproductions of the picture of the individual, the thumb and finger prints can be compared with the markings 6 and 7 in the space 5.
While I have described my invention as taking a particular form, it will be understood that the various parts of my invention may be changed without departing from the spirit thereof, and hence I do not limit myself tothe precise construction set forth, but consider that I am at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is a 1. An identification device of the character described consisting of a photographic reproduction including as a part an integral portrait of a person and other integral photographic reproductions of features of said person including thumb print and autograph; said photograph, thumb printand autograph being arranged in suchmanner that the section containingthem can be cut portrait of a person and other integral photographic reproductions of features of said person including thumb print and autograph; said photograph, thumb print and autograph being arranged in such manner that the section containing them canbe cut and used as an identification card for comparison with similar devices, said device also including a duplicate of said thumb print and located remote from said section;
substantially as describd- I In testlmony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
