Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 18, 1919.
Application filed April 16, 1918. Serial No. 228,932.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that T, IsAnoRE Goon, a citizen of the United States, residing at David City, in the county of Butler and State of Nebraska, have invented a new and useful Brush, of which the following is a specification.
The subject of the present invention is a brush such as is used in cleaning cloth, and the invention contemplates the provision of a brush to which liquid may be fed.
A further object within the contemplation of the invention is the provision of means for distributing the liquid throughout the brush.
The invention also contemplates the pro vision of means for controlling the supply of liquid to the brush.
A still further object of the invention is to generally improve the construction and enhance the utility of brushes of this character.
WVith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
A practical embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a view in longitudinal section of a brush constructed in accordance with the invention;
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same with the top plate removed;
Fig. 3 is a detail sectional view showing a modified form of inlet for the brush.
Referring to the drawing by numerals of reference In carrying out the invention there is provided a brush having the usual back 1 to which the bristles 2 are secured in the ordinary manner. A block 3 is mounted on the back 1 and this block is provided with an opening in which is placed a trough or basin 4: for the reception of liquid. The bottom of the trough has a series of apertures or perforations formed therein to permit the liquid to percolate from the trough, through the back of the brush to the bristles. A top plate 6 is seated on the block 3 and the block and plate are bound in place upon the back 1 by screws 7 or otherwise.
A pipe 8 is positioned in the trough 4. and is threaded into a nut 9 which clamps the wall of the trough 4 against an annular shoulder on the pipe 8. An inlet pipe 10 is threaded into the portion of the pipe 8 extending beyond the trough. The pipe 10 threads into and communicates with a hollow handle 11 which is secured to the upper plate 6, and which forms a means for operating or handling the brush. Connection may be made from the hollow handle to a suitable source of liquid supply through the medium of flexible piping, not shown. A valve 12 may be interposed in the hollow handle 11 for the purpose of controlling the supply of liquid to the trough 4.
In the modification shown in Fig. 3 the pipe 10, instead of communicating with the handle 11, is led directly through the end of the block 3 and is connected, by means of piping, not shown, with a source of liquid supply. The valve 12 controls the liquid supply in this instance.
As will be understood, water, oil, cleaning liquids or the like may be supplied from a suitable tank to the brush, either under the force of gravity or by pressure. The brush is thus continuously supplied with the desired liquid without time being lost in stopping to redip the brush.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new and sought by Letters Patout, is
A brush including a back provided with a block having a recess therein, bristles carried by the back, a tank seated in said recess and having a perforated bottom, a cover secured to said block, a pipe extending through said block and having communication at one end of said tank, said pipe having its opposite end closed, a handle secured to the cover and having a passage therethrough, and a pipe having its end threaded into the handle and first named pipe and extending through the back and cover for conducting liquid to the tank.
