OILING :onvron.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. it!" 1919.
Application filed March 9, 1918. Serial No. 221,524.
which the following is a specification, refer ence being had to the accompanying draw- :ings. i
This invention relates to certain improvements in oiling devices and it is an object of the invention to provide a device of this general character having novel and improved n'ieans whereby oil may be readily applied to a saw, plowshare or other surface.
it is also an object of the invention to provide a device of this general character which includes a container provided with an applying swab together with means whereby the oil within the container may be delivered to the swab.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this general character including a container provided with a filling opening together with a plug for said filling opening and provided in its outer face with a swab receiving chamber together with a nipple extending within the chamber to afford communication with the container when the plug is in applied position.
it still further object of the invention is to provide a novel and improved device including a container provided with a filling opening together with a plug coacting with said filling opening and provided with a port in communication with the container when the plug is applied and wherein said plug has its outer face formed with a swab receiving chamber together with a removable member coacting with the plug for inclosing the swab when the device is not in use.
lit is also an object of the invention to provide a novel. and improved device of this general character including a container provided with an external swab together with a member for inclosing said swab when the device is not in use and wherein the exterior of the container is provided with means for retaining the inclosing member when the device is in use.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved oiling device whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantagtmns for use, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of my invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, 1 will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a view in elevation of an oiling device constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention; and
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the device as herein embodied.
As disclosed in the accompanying drawings C denotes a container provided with a flexible bottom 1 and with a filling opening 2. The opening 2 is defined by an outstanding annular flange 3 with which is adapted to be engaged a closing member or plug 4s. The outer face of the member or plug 4: is continued by a flange 4 flush therewith. The outer marginal portion of the flange 41: is defined by an outstanding flange 5 whereby a chamber A is afforded and in which is adapted to be fitted a swab S of any suitable absorbent material, such as felt or the like. At substantially its axial center the plug 4. has disposed therethrough an opening 6 con tinued by an outstanding nipple 7 of a length less than the width of the flange 5 and which nipple extends or penetrates within the inner portion of the swab S. The marginalportion it of the flange 4c is also defined by the inwardly directed flange 4; and seated within the chamber or pocket afforded by the flange {l is a gasket 9 which contacts with the upper or outer edge of the flange 3 whereby an effective seal is aflorded when the closing member or plug 4 is in applied position.
By pressing upon the flexible bottom 1 the oil within the container C will be forced outwardly to the swab S resulting in the saturation of the swab so that oil may be readily applied to saws, plowsharcs or other surfaces as the occasions or practice may require.
Engageable with the flange 5 is the removable cap 8 which serves to inclose the swab S when the device is not in use. When the device is in use the cap 8 may be engaged with the, annular flange 9 fixed to the outer surface of the container C so that said cap may be maintained against loss.
From the foregoing description, it is thought to be obvious that an oiling device constructed in accordance with my invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and operated and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without departing from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as hereinafter claimed.
I claim;
An oiling device comprising a container provided with a filling opening defined by an outstanding'flange, a removable plug insertible within the flange for closing the filling opening said plug being provided with an opening therethrough to afford communication within the container, the outer face of the plug being continued by the flange substantially flush therewith, the outer marginal portion of said second named flange being continued by an outstanding flange to afford a chamber to contain a swab and by an inwardly directed flange to afiold a second chamber, and a gasket arranged within the second chamber for contact with the outer edge of the flange defining the fill- I MARLIN ORONER.
