To all whom it may concern:
Be it known thatV I, Mom'rz C. Bonsoir, a citizen of Germany, and a resident of the city of Perth Amboy, in the county of Mid-V dlesex and State of New Jersey,` have in-V vented certain newV and useful Improvements in Cigar-Cutting Machines, of which the following is a specication.
This invention relates to certain improve* ments in the construction of cigar cutting machines and particularly to Ithat class of such machines which is used by cigar makers to cut freshly made cigars to uniform length, by means of an adjustable gage, which by its predetermined distance from a pair of shearing cutters fixes the length o f the cigars to be trimmed.
The objects of my improvement are to provide an instrument vfor the cigar maker which can quickly and eXactly be adjusted to cut cigars of required length and whose adjustment and cutting qualities are' not disarranged by continuous and severe use.
With this and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel details of construction and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and shownand illustrated in the accompanying drawings, made part of these specifications, in which: t

My cigar` cutting machine is preferably constructed as follows:
The base plate 1 is provided with 'a longi-- tudinal groove 1a in its upper face, which accommodates the cigar to be trimmed, and extends over the full length of base 1, for a part of its length it is provided with a slot 2, which is widened out at the end ,2a. The lower part of the base 1 is preferably hollow (as shown in Fig. 4..) and closed at its ends by the transverse walls 1b and 1c.V
Slot 22 accommodates a longitudinal 4screw or spindle f3y provided withV a head 3a and a fixed collar 3 leaving` a circular groove between them,.which fits into a slot of side `wall Y1b and holds spindle 3 in rotatable,

V'While the operation of trimming cigars to uniform length onthis machine doesV not dier materially from that on other machines,- the facility ofrits setting for use and the reliability of its cutting-action are greatly improved by the present invention. In machines at present in use, the gage is shifted in a slot or on a rod,.t0 the desired position,V which is at best approximate', and then clamped in that place.
