SPOON-HOLDER.
Application filed March 31, 1919.
. To all whom it may concern:
of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved spoon holder and the principal object of the invention i to provide a device of the character described which may be adjustably mounted upon a spoon.- and retained in engagement with the spoon by friction, the attachment serving not only as means for engaging a dish or pan to hold the spoon from slipping into the dish but further being so constructed that it may be used when holding the spoon thus preventing the hands from becoming burnt in case the spoon should be hot.
Another object of the invention is to so construct this attachment that it may be easily removed for cleaning purposes or for transferring the attachment to a new spoon.
Another object of the invention is to so construct this attachment that it will have a simple construction and thus be cheap to produce.
This invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the improved spoon holder in use,
Fig. 2 is a view showing the improved spoon holder in side elevation and in place upon a spoon, and
Fig. 3 is a view showing the improved holder in end elevation and thespoon in section.
This spoon holder is indicated in general by the numeral 10 and will preferably be formed of wood or some other material which is a slow conductor of heat. This holder will be substantial elliptical in shape but will be tapered toward its lower end as clearly shown in Fig. 2 thereby permitting the holder to be conveniently grasped when used as a handle for the spoon. It is of course understood that modifications may be made in the general shape of the holder without departin from the spirit of the invention. The b ock or body of this holder Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 4:, 1919.
Serial No. 286,342.
is provided with a longitudinally extending slot 11 leading from one side to a point approximately the longitudinal axis of the block thereby tending to place the holder evenly about the handle of the spoon 12 when in use. It has been stated that this device is to be used in connection with a spoon and has been illustrated in this connection but it is to be understood that this device can be used in connection with a fork or any other similar culinary implement. A transversely extending slot 13 is formed in this holder and is cut to extend toward the upper end of the block as shown clearly in Fig. 2 thus permitting this holder to be placed in engagement with a plate or other similar receptacle 14 without there being any danger of the block slipping out of.
engagement with the plate.
en in use this holder will be put in place upon the fork or spoon and the holder will be held against sliding upon the handle of the spoon by the frictional engagement between the holder and the handle. With the holder at the proper point the spoon may be suspended from the upper portion of the wall of the dish or pan and will not be liable to slip into the pan or extend into the same beyond a desired amount. Of course if this device is to be used as a handle when the spoon becomes heated through being left in the pan while upon the stove the handle would be more convenient for use if positioned adjacent the upper or outer end of the handle and therefore when it is desired to use this attachment as a handle it will be moved along the handle of the spoon until at the desired point. This attachment can be easily removed when desired and after the spoon and holder have been washed and thoroughly cleaned the holder can be put back in place upon the spoon or upon a second spoon. There has thus been provided a device which can be easily and quickly put in place and held at the desired point at the handle and which will serve not only as means for suspending the spoon from the edge portion of a pan or plate but may also be used as a protection for the hands in. case the spoon should become heated.
What is claimed is:
A spoon holder comprising a substantially pear shaped member having a transverse notch angularly disposed relative to the lon- 5 gitudinal axis of said body and opening through the lower side thereof, said body being further provided with a substantially V-shaped kerf extended longitudinally thereof and opening throughout its length at one side of the body and through opposite ends of the same.
In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature hereto.
WALTER S. JOHNSON.
