This invention has a's its object the pro vision of'a pistol combined witha cane in such manner as to be normally unobservable, but which may be separated from the cane and used as a re arm in a convenient and practical manner.

These and other objects, which will loecome more fully apparent as the description progresses, are attained by the novel construction and combination of parts hereinaftervdescribed and shown in the accompanying drawings, forming a material part of this disclosure and in which- Figurel l is a partial side elevational view showing a combined gun and cane made in accordance with the invention, parts being broken away in order to disclose the interior construction.

Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view taken von line 2-2 of Fig. l.

Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 1.

Fig. 4 is a similar transverse sectional view taken on line 4 4 of Fig. 1, and

Referring to the drawings, the numeral 10 indicates the cane or staff element, here shown to be slightly conical and terminating in a tip 11, adapted to make contact with the ground when the device is used as a cane.

The upper end of the cane body 10 contains a recess 12, from which leads a screwthreaded opening 13, receptive of a threaded stem 14, formed with the body 15 in which the gun-lock mechanism hereinafter to be described iscontained. Thebody 15 has a similar screw-threaded extension 16 at the opposite end on which is engageable the vcap element 17 of lthe cane.

Slidably engaged with the cylindrical body 15, is a tubular casing 18 normally held in a raised or upward position, as shown 1n Fig. 5, by a bayonet joint device 19, the same engaging with a pin 20, set in Specification of Letters Patent.

the body, a similar pin 21 being secured in the lower portion of the body, engageable with a like' slot 19 formed in the opposite' cr lower end of the slidable casing 18. A front sight 22 is engaged in a longitudinal recess 23, -iorrned in the threaded extension 14, the sightV base being hing'edly engaged by a pin 24 andheld in either of its adjusted positions by a iiat spring 25, fixed in the bottom of the recess 23. Similarly a rear sight 26 is hingedly engaged by the pin 27, and held in either of its adjusted positions by a flat spring 23, secured in the recess 29, formed midway in the body, the front sight being obscured when inclosed in the upper end of the cane element 10, while the rear sight 26, when the device is used as a cane, is covered by thc sliding tubular casing 18. v

Extending axially into the body, and through the extension, is a gun barrel 30 through which the bullets are discharged, the inner end of the barrel communicating with a chamber 31, open at one side and receptive of a pair of projections 32 formed with a plate 34, having extending lugs and 36, suited to the exterior of the body 15. Projecting' rearwardly from the rear lug 36 is anar-m 37, pivoted on a pin iixed in the body of the gun. An opening is drilled longitudinally in the lugs 35 and 36 adapted to receive a pin 38, Vto which is attached a linger clip 39adapted to be operated so as to retract the detent point 40, formed with the end of the pin 38 and having an angular end, the detent being engageable with the body 15 so as to hold the cartridge carrying projections 32 'in proper position when closed, the detent being projected outwardly so as to remain locked by a coiled compression spring 41, extending between the lug 36 and iinger clip 39.
