In a press of the character described, the combination of a fixed piston and a movable cylinder, the cylinder head thereof formingone of a pair of platens, a second platen mounted in fixed relation to said piston,j a chamber Within said fixed platen having an operative connection with the interior of said cylinder, and means to admit steam to the interior of said cylinder to heat the platens and to bring them together.

In a press of the character described, the combination of a fixed piston and a movable cylinder, the cylinder head thereof forming one of a pair of platens, a second platen mounted in fixed relation to said piston, a chamber within said fixed platen, and means controllable to admit steam simultaneously to said chamber and to the interior of said cylinder.
10. In a press of the character described, the combination of a fixed platen, a movable platen, an actuating piston and cylinder for said movable platen having a steam space adjacent the surface of said movable platen, a chamber within said fixed platen formin a steam space adjacent the surface thereo means connecting said steam spaces, and means providing an exhaust port below the level of said steam spaces, said steam spaces and connections being constructed and arranged to drain Water 0f condensation to said exhaust port.
