Patented Oct. 8,1872.

UNITED STATES OFFICE.
JOHN MAYHER, OF EAST HAMPTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN STEAM-PUMPS.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN MAYHER, of East Hampton, in the county of Hampshire and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Steam-Pumps; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
This invention relates to theimproved steampump patented by me May 14, 1872; and consists in the combination of a base of peculiar construction With a removable vacuum-chamber located within the air-chamber attached tri) the base, as will be fully described hereina ter.
In the drawing, Figure l represents a plan view of the base of the pump; Fig. 2, a side elevation; and Fig. 3, a central sectional elevation.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will now proceed to describe fully its construction and manner of operation.
A represents the base of the pump, provided with the passage o leading; to the supplyingpipes and passage o connecting the passage o with the removable vacuum-chamber b. The base is further provided with a water-chamber, m, and with discharge-passages a n located on each side of the vacuum-chamber, and connecting with the air-chamber O, as shown. B represents the vacuum-chamber,
-5th day of August, 1872.
which chamber is cast with the main portion l of the pump.
By this arrangement the vacuum-chamber is removed from the outside of the pump Where it has heretofore been inconveniently located, and is located in the air-chamber out of the way, and Where it is protected from injury. By making the vacuum-chamber removable I can use different sizes according to the varying circumstances under which the pumpsare used, and in certain cases the vacuumchamber, if desired, can be entirely dispensed With.
Having thus fully describedl my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the base A, constructed as described, with its passages o o n n with the vacuum-chamber B and air-chamber O, as described and shown.
This specification signed and witnessed this JNO. MAYER.
