Speceation of Letters Patent.

Application zle May 17, i919. Serial No. .297,37.
To all trimm it may concern:
Be it known that l. BENJAMIN F. 'lei-1N- s'nix, et' the city ot' Toronto, in the county of York, Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented certain non' and useful improvements in incubatore, of which the Jfollowing is a specification.
in devising this incubator iny object has heen to provide a cheap, simple and easily operated incubator in which the-turning .of the eggs is greatly facilitated. i
l attain my object hy means of constructions hereinafter described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in Which- Fignre 1 a perspective View of an incubator constructed in accordance with niy invention; and
2 a sec-lional detail of one of the thermost-ats.
in the drawings like numerals ,of reference indicate corresponding parts in the dii?- ferent tigures.
Th incubator casing'` is iorined in .two
parts l and "2, so shaped that. when brought together they forni a cylinder. These halves are hinged together .along one edge and are provided with one or more catches 2 secured to one haltl and adapted to engage in keepers on the other half. These keepers may be slots 3 as shown. The part l ot the incubator` casing in section is siightl greater than a senil-circle, and the hail l is gournaled en trnnnions secured thereto, the trnnnions being located in .,linen'ient with the center .et gravity of the-device, so that it will hang troni the hail with either e d np.
' l oi the casing is located the rod (3, which secured to the ends of me part 2 oi the casing' by means ol? nuts 7. To secure stillness iv'th lightness, this central rod nia?! he ii'ornied et a tube, and is threaded from end to end to carry the trays S.
rhese trays S are 'lin'ined 'with hubs .l2 'threaded to screw on the rod G, and are also preferably provided with the riins l0. These trays are preterahly perforated or 'formed ot' heavy woven wire, The trays: are used in. pairs with the rims l0 or each pair facing' one another, the being' held between surh pairs oi trays. rlho tra-ys heing' substantially similar. the device may he used lith either end up and turned end tor end vwhenemr necessary to invert the At any time the rod and the trays carried thereby hay he removed by slacking the nuts 7.
trunnions 5, one or beth of which being.
i'ornie .l hollow for that purpose. If preferred, a heating coil ll maybelocatedat each end of the casino. A detiecting plate l2 should be placed between each heating coil -and the adjacent trays to prevent undue heatingthereot hy radiation from the coil. its the heated air tends to rise, it will usually he preferable to use the heating` coil located at the lower end of the casing, cutting out the coil. at the opposite end.
A* thermometer 19 may be located along the eggs, for example. those contained in the middle pair of trays, vv'nich thermometer may he read through the glazed door 1.3 which closes' an opening in one part of the casing'. Another door His provided closing an opening` in the other halt' of the casing, which door is provided 'with pockets to receive damp sponges.
The. temperature oi" the incubator is regulated 'ny tlierinostats 15, one located at each end ot' the casing, which thermostats may he ot the type shown in Fig. 2. rl`he thermo-- stat compri.-
tivo flaps 1G connected together and pivoted at Li' adjacent a hole formed in the cover. The part-s are so halauceil that the thermostat at the bot-tom will remain onen providing ingress lor'cool air' .vhenever the thermostat the top opens. It' the tenriiieratnre in the incubator rises heyond a predetermined degree, the heated air will raise the tiap l5 of the upper therzn'ostat which covering the hole controlled hy the upper thermostat and will ggierrnit a stitlicient amount the heater' air 'te escape to permito the temperature filling to the desired degree.
lllhat claiin my invention is i. an incubator, a cylindrical casing l'ornied in semiaylindrical halves hinged together; a center rod secured in atrial position to the ends ot one half trays supported on said center rod; covers adjustable to and troni the trays; means for supiiiortingr the cylinder so that it may he tilted to lering ci ther end uppermost; and ineans `for heatriecl on the center rod relatively adjustable An incubator constructed as sei forth in claim l in which one lmli' of the casinois' provided with a door adapted to holt a, sponge at its inner Side and the other half of the casing with a glazed door for inspeetion purposes.
4:. As an incubator, :r Cylindrical Casing adapted Lo open up longitudinally; a center rod secured in axial position in the Casing; disk-shaped trays and covers therefor Carto and from one another on the center roel;
means for heating the interior orfthe easlng; :rnd trimrnons ntopposr; sides or tho Casin@ Wlierel) Y it mov be sul )orecl so that it may oe turned end for end,
n incubator constructed as ses laortlr in Claim in which eleetrio heating means are provided, one of the truunions being made hollow for the passage of electric Wires. T
Signed at Toronto, Canada, this 30th clay of April, 1919.
