Be it known that THOMAS J. FAY, a
citizen of 'the Unite'u States, 'residing at as inserts. such inserts being interposed between the plates for various purposes. It is the purpose of this invention` to provide means, preferably in the form of such inserts,whereby greet uniformity of friction may be maintained between the adjacent plates, the rusting of the plates prevented, and noise attending the acti-on of said plates eliminated. Further 4objects of the invention will appear hereinafter in connection with the detailed description..

showing the same clamped at its central portion to a vehicle axle, the spring having inserts formed in accordance with my invention interposed between the plates thereof; and Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail inY perspective of a part of the spring shown in the preceding figure.
Describing by reference characters the various parts illustrated in the drawing, 1 denotes the axle of a vehicle and 2, 3, 4, 5
and 6 the plates of a multi-leaf spring of the semtelliptic type, the number of leeres` being such as will suit the particular requirements of the installation. The spring is Shown as clamped at its middle portion to the seat 7 on top of the axle by means of the usuel spring clips 8 and a short plate 9 resting on top of the main plate 2 of the spring. Between adjacent plates 2, 3, 4,

Each ply or ribbon of fabric provides a reservoir for the retention of the nonlubrieating gum-like material. In practice, I prefer to use No. 14 duck for the fabric and, With fabric of this Weight and thickness interposed between the leaves of an ordinary spring, the cumulative effect of these plies,

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is 1. A spring comprising a plurality of plates having interposed therebetween fabric which is impregnated or, saturated with rust-preventing and anti-lubcating meterial. Y
`2. A. spring' comprising a. plurality of plates having interposed therebetween fabric which is impregnated or saturated with antidubricating material.
3. A spring comprising a. plurality of leaves, there being lnterposed between adjacent leaves a layer of fabric which .is saturated with beeswax and resinous gums.
4. The combination, with e spring seat, of a.' spring comprising s* plurality of plates having interposed therebetween layers: of fabric saturated with anti-lubricating end rust-preventing materiel, and clips extending around the central portion of the spring and securn the same to the seat.
5. A spring eomprsin a purality of plates having interpe therebetween a, mixture of wax and a, resinous substance whereby rust is prevented and a. uniform friction is created and meinteined between l10 said plates.
