IMPRVEMENT IN CLOTHES-LINE CLAMPS.
To all whom fit may concern:
Be it known that we, ANDREW T. THAYER,
.` of the city and State of New York, and JOHN is but little room in the yard. In these cases.
the line is drawn along as the clothes are secured to the same, and it is important that the line should be of the proper tension, for otherwise it will sag down, or in case of rain it must be slackened, or injury to the pulleys and their Iastenings is liable to ensue. A
Our inventionis a clamp for clothes-lines whereby they can be` tightened or slackened with facility, and either put up or taken down with rapidity'. This clamp consists in a frame with an eye at one end to which the rope is permanently attached, and which frame is pro vided with a clamping-lever to -press upon the rope and hold the same whilethreaded through the `frame beneath `the lever. The rope can be clamped by this device or loosened by turning back the lever and then reclamped.
`In the drawing, Figure lis a section of the clamp; Fig. 2 is an endview; and Fig. Srepresents the manner in which the clamp is applied to the clothes-line.
The frame a has an eye, b, at one end, to which one end of the clothes-line c is firmly attached. Near the other end of` the frame a are two jaws, e e, between which the clamping end i Of the lever 7c swings, and between which jaws the other end of the clothes-line `cis passed and threaded through the hole l. It will be evident that the clamping end is made to secure or release the clothes-line whilebetween the jaws c e, according to the direction in which the lever 7c is moved by hand. Fig. 3 illustrates how the clothes-line is passed over pulleys, and can be drawn backward or forward in hanging clothes upon either portion of the line. This fastening or clamp prevents the use of knots in the rope and allows for the rope being removed from the pulleys with facility, because there is one end of the rope that is entirely free 'to be threaded through or unthreaded from the pulleys and clamp.
We claim as our invention- The clothes-line clamp made of the frame a, with the holes b and Z and jaws e, in combination with the hand-lever t' k for holding the cord, as and for the purposes'specied.
