This invention relates to road machines,- and the principal object is to provide amachine of this character for use in grading and recrowningr the surfaces of roads in a novel and efficient manner.
Another object of the invention is to provide a road machine embodying a pair of rotary scrapers for scraping the dirt froin the sides of the road toward the center,-s0 thatlthe rollers which follow immediately in rear of the scraper can roll the dirt down into the wagon and horse tracks as Well as any rats that may be present.

The ratchet levers connected to each pair of levers 26 and 27 are arranged on opposite sides of the drivers seat, so that one may be grasped by the right hand and one by the left hand to raise the opposite ends of the desired rotary scraper. This raising and lowering of the rotary scraper will be permitted through the universal joint 24.
The front part of the main frame is connected to the bolster 34 of-the front running gear by a kingpin 35. 36 is a coupling member secured to the front end of the main frame and projecting through a slot 37' in the bolster 34 to receive the king pin 35. 38 is a suitable brace attached to the king pin between its head and the bolster 34 and to the main frame by being extended downwardly beneath the hounds 39.
By the use of a machine of this character, it will be noted that the rotary scrapers will scrape the dirt from the opposite sides of the lOiTCl in toward the center thereof, so that the rollers following immediately will roll thescrape'd dirt down into the horse and Wagon tracks as well as any ruts that may be present. \Vith the arrangement of the rollers as shown, it will be noted that the rollers '9 follow in the .wagon tracks or ruts, the rollers 5 in the horse tracks and the rollers 4 along the opposite sides of the road. By making the rollerscomparatively short and individually supporting thcinfronrthe main frame, provision is made for rollersto v adjust themselvcs'to the crown of the road.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it is to be understood that while I have described the principle of operation of the invention, together with the device which I consider to be the best embodiment thereof, I desire to have it understood that such changes in construction. and arrangement of parts may be made when desired as are within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is 1. A road machine comprising a plurality of rollers disposed in different transverse positions, a frame mounted on said rollers. rotary scrapers at opposite sides of the main frame in front of said rollers and having their axcs arranged obliquely relatively to the longitudinal axis of the frame, an operative connection between each scraper and a corresponding roller at the same side of the frame including a universal joint, and individual means for supporting each scraper for adjustment from the frame.
2. In a road machine, a transverse-ground packing roller, a frame mounted on said roller, a scraper carried for rotation and ad ustment by said frame and arranged with its axis horizontal and oblique to the longitudinal axis of said frame, said scraper beingloeated forwardly of said roller to ,operate on the ground in front of said roller,

4. In a road machine of the character-described, the combination with a rotary scraper shaft, of a plurality of resilient spring scraper arms, each arm composed of a piece of fiat s ring steel substantially semicrrcularfor t e greater part of its length and rebent to form a hook for the remainder of its length for engagement with the sur face of the ground.
