BROACHING-MACHINE.
To all whom it may concern:
resident of Toledo, in the county of Lucas and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Broaching-Machine; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full,
-clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enableothers skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had. to the accompanying drawings, and'to the characters of reference marked thereohfwhich form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to broaching machines-and it has for its object toprovide an efficient broaching machine .that will rapidly broach articles. -The extremely great pressure required to broach articles by a. rapidly moving ram-makes it exceedingly difiicult to produce a-commercially operative automatic feed control machine Whichjwill turn out I bed plate.

The inventionma y becontained in construction of different forms. I have selected one of such construction as aneXample of constructions containing the invention 'and shall describe it hereinafter. The length of the rod- 15 is such that the feed rod 6 is moved inward by the spring 11 when the ram has drawn the broach away from the bed plate and from the bushings.

The slidin member 23 moves between angle irons 2 and is pushed forward by the spring 26 which is located between the rod or plate 29 and, the member 23. The forward m0vement is limited by the stops 30, 31 located on the member 23 and the plate 32 which is adjustably bolted on one of the angle irons-27. It may be locked from movement l the screw 33, which passes through the slot.

The stops 31 and 230 permit the rollers 25 to be so placed relative to the plate 18 that is carried by the roller and its pressure thereon against the other roller so thatthe bushing is held by the pressure of the-spring 26 between the rollers and the plate or anvil I 18 and in alinement with the -broach 2.
The broaeh, in the operation, moves downward, the feed rod 6 being drawn back in position to engage a bushing. The broaeh passes through the bushing in centered position, the rod 6 being held back by the rod.
' 15, and through the opening 35 in the bed plate 3 and then returns, the bushing being engaged by the stripper plate and removed from the broach. 'The rod 6 then is permitted to move forward by the action of the spring 11 pushing a bushing into position-of engagement bythe roller 25 which centers the bushing for the next operation.
The bushings are directed away from the broaeh by. the angle irons 43.
I claim:
1. In'a' broaching machine the combination of a ram, a broaeh secured to the ram, a feeding means, a centering means for centering the articles operated upon by the broach to which they are fed by the feeding means, and cooperating with the feeding means for ejecting the articles from beneath the broach.
2. In a broaching machine the combinationof a ram, a broaeh connectedto the ram, a feed rod operated by the ram, a yielding centering means having a plurality of rotatable centering members for centering the articles operated upon by the broach.
3. In a broaching machine the combination of a ram, a broaeh connected to the ram,
a feed member, means for operating the member, a yielding centering means having a plurality of rotatable centering members for centering the articles operated upon by the broaeh, and cooperating with-the feed member for ejecting the articles from beneath the broach.
4:. In a broachi-ng machine-the combination of a ram, a broaeh connected to the ram,
a feed rod operated by the ram, a yielding centering means' having a plurality of rotatable centering members"for centering the articlesoperated upon by the broaeh, and cooperating with the feed rodfor ejecting the articles from beneath the broaeh, and
guides for guiding the articles .to the end of the feed rod and to the rotatable members and away from the rotatable members. i

membersfor forcing the bushing against the anvil for centermg it beneath the broach.
