is capable, when in place, of supporting great weight.
An object of the invention is to prov de means for connecting the scaffold to a window frame in such a manner that accidental displacement therefore during the use of the rack will be prevented.
Besides the above my invention 18 distinguished in providing a scaifold with side "members whereby a person will be prevented from falling from the scaifold.
With these and other objects in view the invention will be better understood from the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein: p
Figure 1 is a sectional vlew through a window construction showing my invention applied thereto.
Fig. 2 is a perspective View of the scaffOldi Fig. 3 is a detail View of one of the clamps showing the same partly in sectlon.
Fig. 4 is a top plan View of the bracket. Fig. 5 is an end elevation of the bracket.
Fig. 6 is a detail sectional view showing the hinge connection between the side element and the bottom of the body.
At the start I wish to call attention to the fact that the device illustrated in the drawing is only an illustration of my invention and therefore the construction and location of the parts as shown may be varied at will. For instance, the body 1 of the scaffold may may be. hinged together in various other manners than shown in the drawing wherein the vertical rods 2 are looped around the frame work of the bottom 3 as indicated at 4. The vertical bars 2 are connected to horizontal bars 5, to which maybe attached Wire mesh 6 to form side elements 7. By hinging the side elements 7 to the bottom it will be seen that the side elements may be folded over the bottom for minimizing space when shipping or carrying the device. The side elements when in assembled position, may be connected by any suitable form of clamps 8.
Adjustably connected to the body 1 are the rings 9, each of which terminates in a ball 10 engaging a socket 11. The socket 11 forms the terminal of a clamp 12 consisting of two elements 13 and 14, adjust ably connected together by means of a set screw 15. The clamp 14 is shaped to engage behind a window sill and is provided with a point 16 for engaging under the windowsill as clearly shown in Fig. 1. As far as I have proceeded it will be seen that a body of a rigid construction may be readily supported from a window sill by these clamps, but for the purpose of providing a more substantial construction I provide a bracket 16 also having a connection with the body by means of chains 17, each of which may have an adjustable connection with the body and with the bracket. For the purpose of accommodating window sills of different sizes the bracket 16 consists of two members 18 and 19, having a telescopic connection and held in adjustable position by set screws 20. Each of the members 18 and 19 is provided with a T shaped extremity 21 slidab-ly receiving one end of the L shaped arm 22 that is adapted to engage the window frame as clearly shown in Fig. 1. By referring to Fig. 2 it will be seen that there are: two arms to each of the members 18 and 19, one of which has an eye bolt 23 engaging the end of its associated chain 17 while the other is provided with an eye bolt 24 slidably receiving an intermediate portion of the chain 17. By this arrangement it will be seen that upon pressure being applied to the chain 17 there will be a tendency to move the arms 22 toward .each other thereby preventing accidental displacement between the arms and the window frame.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings it should be apparent that I provide a device of substantial construction capable of standing great weight and having the advantage that all parts are adjustable for accommodating different sized windows and allowing the parts to be readily folded for minimizing space when carrying the device from place to place. Broadly stating my invention consists of providing a collapsible body in combination with an adjustable bracket for supporting the body on the window frame in such a manner that accidental dislocation of any part is prevented, therefore I do not desire to be limited to the exact showing in the drawing except in the manner set forth in the claims hereunto appended.
Having claim is:
1. In a window scafi'old, a box like body, means for detachably securing one side of said body to a window sill so as to be suspended therefrom, a bracket adapted to fit within the window frame and provided at its opposite sides with horizontally disposed substantially U-shaped members adapted to fit about the inner andouter faces of the frame at opposite sides thereof, and flexible members secured at their outer ends to the outer side of said body, said flexible members having their inner ends secured to the outer arms of the U-shaped members and their intermediate portions slidably condescribed my invention, what I emme nected to the inner arms of said members whereby the arms of the U-shaped members will beforced toward each other into tight gripping engagement with the frame when said flexible members are tensioned.
2. In a window scaffold, a box like body, means for detachably securing one side of said body to a window sill so as to be suspended therefrom, a bracket adapted to fit within the window frame transversely thereof and provided at its opposite ends with upwardly extending substantially T-shaped members, each of said members being provided at its upper end with an inner and an outer element cooperating to form a horizontally disposed and outwardly directed substantially U-shaped clamp fitting about the sides of said frame, and flexible members secured to the outer side of said body and to the outer elements of said 'clamps, the intermediate portions of said flexible members being slidably secured to the inner elements of the clamps.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
