NEALY WILLIAii/Is, or FoRrsoN, GEORGIA.
CURTAIN-STRETCIv-IER.
Application led February 26, 1919.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, NEALY WILLIAMS, a citizen of the United States, residing at F ortson, in the county of Muscogee and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain- Stretchers, of which the following is a speciiication.
This invention relates to curtain stretchers, and the object t-hereof is to provide .a simply constructed, cheap apparatus of this character on which the curtains to be stretched may be quickly secured, and the stretcher quickly and uniformly expanded and held to effect the stretching operation,
and collapsed when not in use.
`Witli the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 represents a plan view of a stretcher constructed in accordance with this invention shown in open operative position Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof, and
Fig. 3 is an end view partly in section.
In the embodiment illustrated, the stretcher constituting this invention comprises side bars 1 and 2, each composed of sections 3 hingedly connected at 4, said sections being shown of equal length, but obviously they need not necessarily be of such length.
These side -bars l and 2 are adjustably connected by end bars 7 and 8, the side bars having lateral extensions 5 on their inner edges at their opposite ends which carry bolts 6 provided with wing nuts 6. These bolts extend through longitudinal slots 9 formed in the end bars 7 and 8 and by means of which the side bars l and 2 may be adj usted toward and away from each other and held by said bolts.
The end bars have upstanding flanges 10 on their upper faces at their outer edges, and said flanges are equipped with remov- Specfication of Letters Patent.

able curtain attaching pins or studs l1, any desired number of which may be employed, and which are spaced equal distances apart for connecting the curtain to the stretcher. Similar pins are provided on the side bars l and 2, being designed for the same purpose, slots 1la being provided to receive the pins.
This stretcher frame is supported by legs l2, four of which are here shown, with their upper ends connected by strap hinges 13 to the ends of the end bars 7 and 8 so that the stretching of the curtains on the frame will have a tendency to spread these legs and force their ends into the ground if desired.
In the use of this improved stretcher, thel parts being in the position shown in the drawings, a curtain to be stretched is engaged with the pins ll and the wing nuts 6 are then loosened and the side bars 1 and 2 moved away from each other until the curtains are stretched to the desired extent. These nuts are then tightened up and the curtains allowed to remain until dried.
vWhen the stretcher is not in use, the parts may be readily disassembled by taking off the wing nuts 6 and disconnecting the end from the side bars, the side bars being folded at the hinged connection of their sections. rlhe legs l2 are then folded up over the end bars and the frame may be stored in a comparatively small space.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the vaccompanying drawings, the advantages of the construction and of the method of operation will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art to which the invention appertains and while I have described the principle of Operation of the invention together with the device which now consider to be the best embodiment thereof, I desire to have it understood that the device shown is merely illustrative and that such changes may be made as are within the scope of the claimed invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A curtain stretcher comprising side barscomposed of foldable hingedly connected sections, arms extending laterally from the inner edges of said side bars at their opposite ends, end bars slotted longitudinally throughout the greater portion thereof, up-
is collapsed, and curtain attaching elements standing flanges rising from the upper faces carried by said side and end bars.
of said end hars adjacent and outside said slots and against the innerl faces of Which the ends of said side hars abut When in operative position, bolts carried by said arms and extending through said slots, legs hinged to said end bars and foldable Hat against theii` upper faces when the stretcher in presence of two Witnesses.
