Description

R. W.THOMPSON.
Improvement in Saw-(Summers N0.-131,834. v Patented 0031,1872.
Wituwm: @umtur:
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ROBERT W. THOMPSON, OF PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO J. FULTON THOMPSON, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN SAW-GUMMERSQ Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 131,834., dated October 1, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT W. THOMPSON, of Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Saw-Gummer, of which the following isa specification:
Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of my im- "proved saw-gummer. Fig. 2 is an inverted end view of the cutting-tool.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to a new saw-guinming apparatus for circular saws; and it consists in the combination of a rotary cuttingtool with a tubular feed-screw in such manner that by means of the screw the toolcan be let down more or less to cut through the entire blades, even as its points become shorter. By
the screw the pressure of the cutting-tool upon the saw-blade can alsd be increased at will.
A in the drawing represents the frame of my improved saw-gumming apparatus. It is gle's to the bed-plate a. G is a pin, fitted through the tube B, and carrying at its lower end a head or enlargement, b, which is grooved at the bottom to receive four, more or less, cutting-teeth, d d, and their shanks. A sleeve, 6, which embraces the head 12, holds the shanks of the teeth 01 confined in the head. The sawblade to be gummed is placed on the bed-plate a and fastened upon the same by screws f j, which are fitted through the yoke A. The pin 0 is then turned by means of a crank-handle at the upper end, and fed down at the same time by turning the screw B, which bears on the head 12. In this manner the desired recess can be rapidly cut out.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent-- The series of cutting-teeth d fastened between a circular head, b, and sleeve 6, as and for the purpose described.
ROBERT W. THOMPSON.
