UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JONATHAN N. KINGSTON, OF BRISTOL COUNTY, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF, JOSEPH SIMPSON, AND LAWRENCE FIELDING, OF FALL RIVER, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN LOOM SHUTTLE- CHECKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 131,761, dated October 1, 1872.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JONATHAN N. KINGS- TON, of the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improvement in Shuttle-Checks for Looms, of which,
the following is a specification:
My invention consists of a spring-lever pivoted to the side of the shuttle-box, in front and about midway of the binder. The lever is bent, as shown, so that its opposite ends rest on opposite sides of the binder, and as the shuttle enters the box it presses on the swell of the binder, moves the binder outward against one end of the spring-lever and causes the other end of the spring-lever to project inside the box in the path of and check the shuttle by bearing against it. The end of the lever that presses against the shuttle is formed into a broad, thin blade. These devices described prevent the shuttle from rebounding when thrown very rapidly, and the filling from being displaced or broken. l dispense with the usual check-strap, and may use my lever and swell, as hereinafter described, on any loom, and the shuttle may be operated in the usual way.
Figure 1 is a top view of the shuttle-box; Fig. 2, an elevation showing the end of the lever; Fig. 3, a front view of the spring-levand Fig. 6 is a top view of the same.
Description.
1 represents the lathe; 2 the binder, with its swell l5; 3, the shuttle, shown as about entering the box; 4, the guard; 5, upright supports on lathe ,6, the spring-lever for checking the speed of the shuttle; 7 the back finger of the protecting-rod; 8, the protector; 9, the spring on the lay bottom to hold the protecting-rod in place; 10, the front of the shuttle-box, held and adjustable by screws 11 for shuttles of different sizes; 12, the pickerstick for throwing the shuttle; and 13, the fastening or hinge for the protecting-rod. The spring-lever is pivoted on the stud, A and the binder turns on the pin B.
Having described my invention, I claim The combination, with the shuttle-box, of the pivoted spring-lever 6 and shuttle-binder 2, with its swell 15, the binder and lever being constructed and combined as shown, and operating to check the shuttle, as set forth.
