SHAVING-IBRUSH.
To all whom it may concern: i
Be it known that L'BENJAMIN F. DUN- BAR, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Spokane, in the county of Spokane and State of Washington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shaving-Brushes, of which the followingis la specification.
' This invention relates to shaving brushes and has more especial reference to an improved fountain feed shaving brush.
The invention'has for its dominant object to provide a shaving brush havingv the handle thereof formed to constitute a soap receiving chamber whereby soap can be forced from the same onto the brush to permit the forming of, .a lather when shaving.
It is also an object of the invention to provide novel soap feeding means for forcing the soap from the supply chamber onto the brush.
Another object of the invention is to provide cut 0E means for automatically closing the soap outlet means in the supply chamber to prevent the continued discharge of soap therefrom or the fiowof water from the brush into the supply chamber.
Another important characteristic of the invention resides in the provision of a removable brush whereby the various parts of the device can be thoroughly and easily cleaned or repaired.
All of the foregoing together with additional advantageous details and arrangements of parts of the preferred embodiment of my invention will be clear from the specific description hereinafter contained when read in connection with the accompanying drawings formlng parts thereof, wherein said embodiment of the invention is illustratedfor the purpose of'facilitating a full understanding of the present improvement.

A 'brush head 4 comprising an annular sleeve having a discharge neck or conduit 5 formed concentrically thereof and having its peripheral surface screw threaded is turned into engagement with the screw threaded portion 3, of the shell 1, thus forming a bottom for the same as well as a means for securing the brush, designated 6, Within the same. It'is to be understood that the upper ends of the brush bristles are securely arranged within the head 4; in any manner commonly known to the art.
Upon the upper face of the brush head 1 centrically disposed screw threaded opening through, which the said stem is received While at diametrically opposite points adj acent the periphery thereof notches or recesses 13 are formed and serve as means for receiving the vertical guide strips 2, thus preventing rotation of the piston 12 with relation to the stem 9 and causing the same to'be moved either upwardly or downwardly thereupon dependent upon the direction of rotation thereof.
To the under side of the bearing bracket 7 there is secured a bar 14 to which the upper end of a contractile coil spring 15 is aflixed,
the said s ring carrying upon its lower end a plug va ve'16 normally seated within the open end of the discharge neck 5 and serving as an eficient closure or cut of? means therefor.
A closure cap 17 having a concave portion 18 is rotatably mounted upon the upper marginal edge of the shell 1 and is secured in position thereupon by means of a thumb screw 19, the threaded shank of which is turned into engagement with the screw threaded pocket 11 formed in the stem 9, it
being understood that the stem 9 is adapted to rotate with the said closure cap due to the connection therebetween.
Slidably arranged upon the shell 1 is a protecting sleeve 20, which, when in its lowermost position will house or incase the bristles of the brush 6, thus, protecting the samefrom dirt or other foreign matter.
In operation, to fill the hollow handle or shell 1 with soap, which is of a pasty consistency, the thumb screw 19 is turned out of engagement with the stem 9 whereupon the closure cap 17 may be then removed. The piston 12 which has been previously moved to aposition adjacent the upper end of the stem 9 is also removed whereupon the shell is then filled with soap. With the parts of the construction reassembled, the piston 12 can be moved downwardly upon the paste like soap contained within the shell or handle 1 by rotating the closure 17 in the proper direction, such rotation causing rotation of the stem 9 anddue to its connection with the said piston 12, moving the same in a. direction to force the suction by way of the neck 5 onto the bristles of the brush 6. During the discharge of the soap from the neck 5, the pressure of the same is suflicient to unset the valve 16 against the tension of the contractile spring 15.- However when downward movement of the piston 12 is discontinued, the plug 15 will be immediately returned to its normal position within the open end of the discharge neck 5, thus, preventing further discharge of the soap and the flow of water from the brush bristles 6 into the supply chamber of the brush; Should it be desired, the brush 6 and its respective head 4 may be readily turned out of engagement with the screw threaded portion 3 of the shell 1 to permit cleaning or repairing of the various parts of the device. W'hen-the brush is not in use the slidable sleeve 20 is moved to its lowermost position thus housing the bristles of the same and preventing the lodging of dirt or other foreign matter therein. Obviously by forming the concave portion 18 in the cap 17 the thumb screw 19 will lie flush with the upper surface thereof and will permit the standing of the brush on one end whennot in use.
Manifestly the construction shown is capable of considerable modification and such modification as is within the scope of my claims I consider within the spirit of my invention.
I claim:
l. A shaving brush, including a hollow handle, abrush head detachably secured in one terminal of the handle, having a discharge tube, a screw threaded stem in the handle, a bearing bracket carried by said brush head swivelly securing one terminal of said stem, a piston movable in the handle by the stem, a yieldable valve adapted to close the discharge tube, and connected, to the bearing bracket, said valve stem and piston being removable from the handle with the brush head and means for actuating the stem.
2. A shaving brush, including a hollow handle, a brush head detachably secured in one terminal of the handle, having a discharge tube, a screw threaded stem in the handle, a bearing bracket carried by the brush head swivelly securing one terminal of the stem, a piston movable through the handle by the stem, a substantially V shaped bearing carried by the bracket having its apex disposed in alinementwith the axis of the discharge tube, a valve controlling the discharge tube, spring means connecting the valve with the apex of the V shaped member and normally retaining the valve in closed position.
3.- A shaving brush including a hollow handle, a brush head detachably secured in one terminal of the handle, and having a dis- .charge tube communicating with the interior of the handle, a bracket secured to the brush head, a screw threaded stem swivelly mounted at one end of the bracket, a piston movable through the handle by the stem, a spring closed valve for the tube carried by the bracket, a cap removable and rotatably applied to the terminal of the handle opposite the brush head, a means for detachably connecting the adjacent terminal of the stem.
