Description

A. N. HALLOWELjL & H. sfRuE.
improvement in Curtain-Fixtures. NO. 131,753. Patented Oct.1,1872.
Hi W
I-WITNEISEES.
0/. mm mmvenmlln cam/memes 0655) NI'IED STATES ALBERT N. HALLOWELL AND HARVEY S. RUE, OF PHILADELPHIA, PA.
IMPROVEMENT IN CURTAIN-FIXTURES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 131,753, dated October 1, 1872.
and weights to a window-curtain in such a manner as to permit the roller upon which the shade is wound to be lowered any desired distance below the upper part of the windowframe, for the admission of light through the upper portion of the sash, or for ventilation when the sash is lowered. The arrangement of the cords and weights is also such that the curtain can be raised from the bottom of the window-frame in the usual manner.
The accompanying drawing represents a front elevation of our improvement incurtainfixtures.
The roller R, carrying the curtainO, is suspended from the upper part 'of the windowi'rame by means of cords D and D, passed over sheaves. which are supported upon brackets B and B. cords D and D are provided with rings or links, which are passed over suitable pivotpins P and P, secured in the ends of the roller. The cord D, which supports one end of the roller R, leads over the sheaves on the, brackets B and B, and down on the left-hand side of the window-frame, and has a weight, W,
attached to it. The cord D which supports the The dependent ends of the.
opposite end of the roller, leads overthe second sheave on the bracket B-this bracket being provided with two sheaves-andis also attach ed to the weight W. This weight slides vertically, in lowering and raising the curtain, upon a suitable guide, G, secured to the side of the windo w-frame, and is sufficiently heavy to balance the roller, curtain, and a weight, W, connected with the endless or elevating cord D The cord D which operates the roller, passes over sheave S, secured to the roller, and over a sheave in the weight W, This weight moves upon a guide, G, similar to the guide G, and maintainsthe proper tension at all times upon the cord.
What we claim as our invention is The combination of the curtain G, roller R, pivots P and P, cords D and D brackets and sheaves B and B, weight W, and guide G, with the weight. W, guide G, sheave S, and elevating-cord D for the purpose of lowering and supporting the curtain roller any desired distance below the upper part of the window-frame, and maintaining the proper tension at all times upon the elevating-cord, substantially as herein set forth and shown.
The above specification of our said invention signed and witnessed at Philadelphia this 14th day of December, A. D. 1871.
