To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CLARENCE \V. Voss, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of St. Louis, in the county of St. Louis and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toys, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to automatic toys, and more particularly to the type of automatic toys embodying a pivotally mounted movable member adapted to travel in a circular path by reason of a load supplied from a storage container and by reason of a coun tel-weight which is carried at one end of the pivoted movable member.
An object of this invention is to provide a toy of the nature specified which is simple in construction, durable and can be manufactured at a relatively small cost as well as a to which can be easily operated by a child.
ore specificall this invention comprehends the provision of a toy as specified which embodies an inclined storage trough or container, at the lower delivery end of which the load recelving bucket rests when the toy is inactive, and to provide means operated upon being struck by a pin carried by the bucket during the movement thereof to release a load for the bucket and allow the same to fall from the storage trough into the bucket which imparts a downward movement to the bucket, moving the movable member or arm, which carries the bucket, upon its pivot and depositing the load upon the support of the toy. The momentum of the arm and the action of the counterweight thereon cause the arm to travel in a complete circuit and automatically operate the load release to permit the deposit of a subsequent load in the bucket, continuing the operation of the arm until the supply of load in the storage trough is exhausted; and further to comprehend the provision of means for preventing the overloading of the bucket and means to retain the load when deposited or emptied from the bucket.
Other objects of the invention will appear in the following detailed description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, and in'which drawlng:

Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the load receiving and carrying bucket. Referring more particularly to the drawing, 1 designates the inclined storage trough or container for the loads that are delivered or deposited into the load carrying bucket 2. The trough or container 1 is supported in its inclined position, by suitable upright supporting arms 3, the lower ends of which arms are attached to a base bar 4. The base bar 4 is, constructed of a single length of relatively thin sheet metal and has the rear portion of its sides bowed outwardly as shown at 5 to form a relatively large confining face for the spherical loads indicated at 6, which are delivered thereto by the bucket 2.
The load carrying bucket 2 is supported at one end of a pivotally mounted movable member 5 which is pivotally supported intermediate its ends upon a pin 6 carried by the upper ends of a substantially U-shaped standard 7. The lower ends of the U-shaped standard is attached to the forward free end of the base bar 4.
The movable member 5 is constructed from w a single piece of sheet metal, being cut and bent to form a pair of spaced arms 8 and 9, which have their intermediate portions connected to a saddle 10 which saddle is pivotally connected. by means of the pin 6 to the upstanding bracket 7. The outer ends of the arms 8 and 9 converge and have a counterweight 11 mounted thereon. The bucket 2 is formed integrally with the arms 8 and 9, and extends from the inner ends of the arms, as clearly shown in the drawing. The rearside 12 of the bucket 2 is preferably bent at an oblique angle to the bottom and sides of the bucket and it extends above the upper edge of the bucket to form a baflie or stop to prevent the spherical load 6 from bouncing out of the bucket during the operation of the toy. The lower edge of the front end or side 13 of the bucket is bulged outwardly as shown at 14, to engage about a pin 15 which is attached to the lower inner corner of the bucket in any suitable manner and projects beyond the side of the bucket for engagement with a rocking arm 16. Of course, it is not absolutely necessary to drop one of the loads into the bucket 2 to start the operation of the toy, as

Ina mechanical toy,the combination, of a movable member pivotally mounted for movement in a circular path'and comprising a pair of spaced arms, enlargements formed upon a pair of corresponding ends of the arms and bent to form a load receiving bucket, the rear wall of said bucket bent at an oblique angle to the bucket bottom and'extending above the open edge of the bucket, the opposite ends of said arms converging, a counterweight attached to said converged ends, a load container, means for arresting the delivery of loads to said bucket, means carried by said bucket to operate said arrestin means to permit a load to be delivered to t e bucket when it reaches a receiving position, means carried by said load arresting means to retain subsequent loads against movement until said arresting means again assume the load stopping position 15. movable member comprisinga pair of spaced arms, enlargements formed upon a pair of corresponding ends of said arms and bent to form a load receiving bucket, a pin extending transversely from the lower forward corner of said bucket, and means operated by said pin during moven'ient of said arm to successively deliver loads from the trough to the bucket.
