i l 'ToZZ whom #may-concern.'
Be it known that I, WAsYnZADoRozNY, a
*citizenef Austria, residing at `Meacham,
'i Province of Saskatchewanfand Dominion y of Canada, have` 'invented certain new and' useful Improvements in Combined] Bayonets i and Wire-Cutters, of-which thejfollovvingl is v between.
Ta specification. f
Y This invention-has as its principalobject the` provision of awsimple device attached to the'hilt-of the-bayonet and operable in an' easy manner, whereby wires or the like may f be readily severed so as' to obtain apassa" e through wire fences,'entanglements and kt ve like obstructions.
These and other like objects are attained by the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter described and shown in the accompanying drawings, forming a materialpart of this disclosure, and in which--` Figure 1 is a side elevational view showing a conventional type of gun, and indicating the application of the invention.
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary perspective view showing the operating parts of the wire cutter ascombined with the bayonet, and
Fig. 3 is an enlarged longitudinal sectional view showing the actuating mechanism by which the wire cutting jaws are operated Referring to the drawings, a conventional Vtype of gun is shown in Fig. 1, the same comprising a butt 10, lock 11, and stock l2, in
which is attached the barrel 13, the same eX-. tending outwardly to the front as is coinmon.
Engaged with kthe outwardly Vextending end of the gun barrel 13, by ordinary devices, is a bayonet 14, having a double eutting edge, and a sharp dagger-like point 15, the opposite end being contained within a handle 16, adapted to be manually operated and held tothe gun stock by ordinary fastenings passing through an opening 17, formed .in the enlarged hilt 18, while at the juncture of the hilt and blade is an eye, or loop 19 containing an opening 20 adapted to slip over the extending end of the gun barrel 13, the arrangements ybeing such as to in no wise impede the free and ordinary use of the gun, or. obstruct the sights thereof.
Formed with the eye 19, is an encircling element 22, extending to some distance downward, and pvoted upon its lower portion,

coincident withan extending'element'25, in-
-tegral with the element 22, `and containing VLan open1ng'26, a similar opening 27v being f-providedinthe extending'jaw24, of the bell-cranlrfso thatY as they are Vmovedjrelatively, they severjany a'rticlefcentered'fthere- *The opposite, vertical arm 28 Vof the bellcrankglever Lhas secured-to: itfby the?r pinl 29, f a connecting link 30,- extending substantially Vparallel with the bayonet handle 16 rearwardly to a` point whereit" is 3engaged with the front end of a wire link 32, supported in bands 33, encircling the stock of the gun and ultimately entering a rod 34, extending outwardly from the front of a casing 35, secured to the stock of the gun below and .slightly forward of the lock 11.
This casing 35, contains a cylindrical opening 36, in which is a plunger 37, having a helical cam slot 38, engageable in which is a pin 39, set in the casing, so as to cause the plunger 37 to rotate when moved longitudinally therein, the plunger being rigidly secured to the rod 34, and pressed forward by a coiled compression spring 40, abutting against one end of the casing 36 at one end, and against the rear end of the plunger 37 at the other.
The rearward end 41 of the rod 34 is bent outwardly to form a handle 42, furnished with an operating knob 43 by which it may be rotated, and obviously when the rod 34 is rotated, the plunger 37 is moved longitudinally, due to the pin 39 engaging within the @am slot. The outer end of the rod 34, contains a cylindrical opening 44, in which, at the bottom is a head 45, formed with the wire 32, the head being free to rotate therein, and held' by a bushing 46, secured by a screw 47, so that when the handle 42 is rotated, the rod 34 is similarly rotated and moved rearwardly together with the .connecting wire link 32, but owing to its rotatable connection with the rod 34, the link is merely drawn rearwardly and not rotated, and obviously, through its connections with the bar 30 of Ytlhe bell-crank connection, and by the bellcrank lever elements the cutting edges 27 are operated with respect to the fixed cutting edges 26, severing a wire or whatever other article may have been entered therebetween.
Having thus .described my invention; and
set forth themanner of itsV application and use, what I'claimy as new and desire to se-` cure by Letters Patent, isf-J 1 Y 1,1m a device of the ciasgdescribd; the:
