ADo-LPH HERD, or YOUNGSTOWN, onto.
GARMENT-MARKER.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented S t 23 1919 Application filed September 11, 1918. Serial no. 253,616.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ADOLPH HERD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Youngstown, in the county of Mahoning and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment-Markers, of
which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in that type of tailorin appliances known as garment gages and markers and commonly termed skirt-gages 0r skirtmarkers.
I The main and primary object of the invention is to provide a simple and practical form of marking device designed to be associated with any suitable supporting means to provide for accurately and expeditiously marking an alteration on any gar- 'ment which is to be shortened.
Figure 1 is a side elevation partly in sec-- tion, and Fig. 2 is a top plan view.
Like references designate corresponding parts in both figures of the drawings.
The marking device proper, which constitutes the essential feature of the present invention, may be utilized in connection with any suitable form of support or gage to make the complete working article.
In the present instance it is shown as being associated with the standard 1 supported by the ordinary base 2.
Slidably mounted upon the standard 1 is the horizontal bar 4: provided with the clamping screw 5 designed to hold it in any desired position on the standard.
The bar 4L is turned downwardly, at substantially right angles, at the point 6, thus forming what may be termed a supporting bracket 7 to which the containing box 8 is attached in any suitable manner. This box 8 is designed to carry the powdered chalk or other similar ingredient used for marking the goods.
Bar 4 is provided, adjacent the point 6, with the slot 9, within which the triggerlever 10 is pivoted upon the pin 11. Immediately below pin 11 is the pin 12, upon which is swingingly mounted the hammerlever 13, the upwardly extending point 14 of which engages the notch 15 formed in the head of lever 10. Lever 13 is so placed that when manipulated, its hammer end 16 will come in contact with the rear end of containing box 8 by gravitation. To increase the force of this contact, if desired, the wire spring 17 may be employed, the
center of which is looped over the pin 12, while the opposite ends, respectively, engage the bar 4 and 11116113111 18 carried by the lever 18.
For filling purposes, the containing box 8 is provided with the opening 19, closed by the cork or stopper 20, and also with a plurality of orifices 21, through which the marking substance is ejected.
The containing box 8 may also be provided with-a follower head 22 actuated by coil springs .28, for the purpose of keeping the marking material or substance advanced to the front or delivery end of the box.
The operation of the device is as follows: The marker proper is first adjusted to the desired height on the standard where it is secured by the clamping screw 5. The operator then presses the free end of lever 10 downwardly, the obvious result of which will be to carry the hammer end of lever 13 away from the end of the containing box 8. When lever 8 is released, gravity, aided by spring 17 if desired, will drive the hammer end of lever 13 against the end of the box 8, forcing a small quantity of the marking material through the orifices 21 and against the goods to be marked.
I claim- 1. In a garment marker, in combination with a support, a marking device carried thereby and comprising a powder carrying case provided with one or more jet-orifices at its forward end, and manually operated mechanism for striking said case at the rear end.
2. In a garment marker, in combination with a support, a marking device carried thereby and comprising a powder carrying case provided with one or more jet-orifices at its forward end, and manually operated mechanism for producing repeated impacts upon the rear end of the case.
3. In a garment marker, in combination with a support, a marking device carried thereby and comprising a powder carrying case provided with one or more jetorifices at its forward end and a springactuated follower head, and manually operated mechanism for producing repeated impacts upon the rear end of the case.
4. In a garment marker, in combination with a support, a marking device carried thereby and comprising a powder carrying case provided with one or more jet-orifices at its forwerd end, a trigger-lever pivoted in the support, a hammer-lever also swingingly mounted in the support, said two levers having such inter-locking engagement as to cause them to move conjunctively, for the purpose of producing an impact upon the rear end of the case.
5. In a garment marker, in combination with a support, a marking device carried thereby and comprising a powder carrying case provided with one or more jet-orifices at its forward end, a trigger-lever pivoted in the support, one end of said lever constituting a finger-piece and the other end being provided with a substantially circular head having a concave section in its periphery; a hammer-lever also pivotally mounted in the support, one end of said lever carrying a hammer member and the other. end having an elongated point engaging the concave section in the head of the trigger-lever to cause the two levers to move Copies of this patent may be obtained for conjunctively, for the purpose of producing an impact upon the rear end of the case.
6. In a garment marker, in combination with a support, a marking device carried thereby and comprising a, powder carrying case provided With one or more jet-orifices at its forward end and a spring-actuated follower head, a trigger-lever pivoted in the support, a hammer-lever also pivotally mounted in the support, said two levers having such inter-locking engagement as to cause them to move conjunctively, for the purpose of producing an impact upon the rear end of the case.
In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my signature in the presenceof two Witnesses.
AD OLPH HERD.
