T 0 all whom t may Concern Be it known that I, ARTHUR E. GUIsn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kenmore, in the county of Summit and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Switch-Throwing Devices, of which the following is a specication.
This invention relates to a switch throwing device designed to be carried by a car and operated by air under pressure from the air pipe.
One object is to provide, in a device of the character indicated, an arm and mechanism connected therewith and operated from a plunger within an air cylinder, the said arm being designed to engage and throw a weighted rocking device mounted at the s ide of the track and having operative connection with the movable Switch rails.

In carrying out my invention employ a connecting rod or bar 10 which directly controls the switch points or switch rails 12 and 13, the rails of the main track being designated 14 and 15. This bar 10 has pivotal connection at 16 with an angle lever or angle member 18 pivotally mounted at 19 on a stationary element. A connecting rod 20 is pivotally secured to the angle lever at the point 24, a threaded link connection 25 being employed as an element of the pivotal connection. A similar member 26 is provided at the opposite end of the .bar and this element 26 is pivote'd at 27 to a rocking arm 28. This arm 28 swings about an aXis 29 and is provided with a plurality of weighted members 31 and 32 having a rounded surface and preferably being of substantially cylindrical configuration.
The intervening spacebetween members 31 and 32 may be cut away as shown at 33. Elements 31 and 32 are designed to be sufliciently heavy to throw the switch rails when the rocking arm 2S is thrown oif center upon the engagement therewith of an operating arm 35 carried by the car. Abracket 37 of any suitable configuration serves to mount the rocking arm and it is secured to a stationary element at the side of the track.
An air cylinder 40 is connected by means of an inlet duct 41 with the air pipe of the train, and within this cylinder is a plunger 42 which is movable under air pressure against the tension of spring 43, such spring serving to return the plunger to normal position when the air pressure is relieved.
A-lever arm 45 is mounted at its center and has pivotal connection with the socketed link element 46 which in turn is connected by means of a threaded portion with a rod 47 secured to operating arm 35. Lever arm 45 also has pivotal connection with the stem 48 upon which the plunger 42 is mounted.
Another rod 47 is pivotally connected with the opposite end of lever 45 and carries an operating arm 35, so that a rocking arm 28 located on either side of the track may be controlled. A given switch requires but one arm 28, but I do not desire to restrict myself to a particular loca-tion therefor.
All of the structure having direct connection with the cylinder, including lever arm 45, rod 47, and operating arm 35 is mounted on the car, and when arm 35 is thrown outwardly, or into engaging position, it is designed to trip the rocking arm 28, throwing the latter for the purpose of controlling the switch rails.
What is claimed is:
1. In a device of the class described, a fluid pressure device to be carried by the car, an operating arm connected therewith, an angle lever, means connected with the angle lever for controlling the switch rails, a weighted rocking device, means connected therewith and with the angle lever for operating the latter and throwing the switch rails, said rocking device including a plurality of spaced engaging members, adapted for Contact with the operating arm.
