MORRIS A. SCHWARTZ, OF LOS GELES, CALIFORNIA.
MAGNETIG-RELEASE HAT-PRESS.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Sept. 9, 1919.
Application filed January 21, 1919. Serial No. 272,295.
To all whom it may concern:
' Be it known that I, MORRIS A. SoHwARTz, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Magnetic-Release Hat-Presses, of which the following is a specification.
My object is to make a magnetic release hat press and my invention consists of the novel features herein shown, described and claimed.
Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of a magnetic release hat press embodying the principles of my invention, the ,parts being shown open to receive a hat.
Fig. 2 is a horizontal section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1. a
Fig. 3 is a View analogous to Fig. 1 and showing the hat in place and the magnet released to around the hat. a c
Fig. 4 is a View analogous to Figs. 1 and 3 and showing the hat under pressure.
The base 1 is rigidly mounted and the hat forming die 2 is mounted upon the base 1 to fit inslde of a hat 3. The base 1. ex-
' tends a considerable distance beyond the die 2 all the way around and has a fiat upper face 4:. The movable pressing die 5 has an annular shell 6 adapted to fit closely upon the face 4 outside of the die 2. chamber 7 extends upwardly fromthe lower edge 8 of the shell 6 and the top of the chamber 7 is covered by a magnetic head 9. The magnetic head 9 consists of a central magnet 10 and a row of magnets 11 leading around the central magnet 10, as shown in Fig. 2. A quantity of magnetic material, such as iron filings 12, is placed in the chamber 7 and when the magnets 6 are energized the magnetic material will be held in chamber 7 against the lower face 13 of the magnetic head 9.
drop the magnetic material In the practical operation themagnetic head 9 is energized to carry the magnetic material 12;. then the pressing die 5 is elevated and the hat 3 placed upon the die 2; then the pressing die 5 is lowered to bring the face8 into contact with the face 4; then the magnetic head is deenergized and the magnetic material will fall around the hat 3 in the chamber 7 as shown in Fig. 3. The magnetic head 9 is slidingly mounted in the shell 6 and when it is desired to press the hat the head 9 is lowered to press the magneticmaoerial 12 tightly upon and around the hat as shown in Fig. 4. Outside of the magnetic feature, the construction and operation of the press may be of any of the well known forms.
Various changes may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention as claimed.
I claim. .1. A magnetic release hat press comprising a rigid base, a stationary die upon the rigid base, a movable pressing die having an annular shell adapted to fit the base around the stationary die, a magnetic head slidingly mounted in the shell and a quantity of magnetic material in the shell against the magnetic head.
2. A magnetic release hat. press comprising a stationary die, a movable pressing die having an annular shell adapted to fit around the stationary die and forming a chamber and a magnetic head slidingly mounted in the shell to enlarge and contract the chamber, and adapted to carry a quantity of magnetic material in the cham her and to press the magnetic material around the hat upon the stationary die.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
