To all whom it mai comer 12f: a
' Be; itknownthat I,-VVUI I i-UN, citizen ofthe Republicof China,"residing at Hongkon ',-in China, have invented certainnew and ane rue hereby declare thefollowing to be full, clear, "and exact description of the lnventiomsuch as will enable others skilled :the art to which itappertainsf to make andusethes'ame. 1 I i This invention relates to toys, and the primary objectof the invention is to proride a toy so constructed as to snnulate the appearance of a-tank,
- Another object of theinvention to pro- -,vide a toy .war tank having means for pro pelling the-same over the ground and novel means for controlling the direction of travel of thetank. v
A; 'further ob ect of the invention 1s 'to provide improved means for constructing the tank so that a simple and eilicient c011 struction is; provided which can be inanuartl in section .V
placed upon themarket at a proved tank,
.lig. 2 is a rear elevation of the same, Fig. 3 is a bottom plan. vlew or the tank Fig. 4c is a vertical longitudinal section through the improved tank, and
1 the line 5--5 of Fig. 4:
Referring to the drawings in detail,
wherein similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several v1e-vs';the numeral 1 generally 1n dicates the improved toy tank whlch 1neludes side walls 2 and 3 which are preterably formed from a single sheet of material and shaped so as to simulate the appearance of areal tank. The upper side edges of the side walls '2 and 3 are pro vided with integral inwardly extending right angular flanges, a and 5 which are preferably crimped-as at 6 to give the appearance of the tractor chains used to pro pel a real tank over the ground.
" wardlyjas at and Fig. 5 is a detail cross section taken on .n-m' gum-rural" specification of letters Patent. Padang-tw t g t; 2 1919 A topwall 7, Whichis Preferably formed from a single sheet of material is secured to the slde walls 2 and3 -1n any'preferred manner, such as by gether; top edgeo f the side "wallsi The top wall 7 has its ends bent downwardly as at 8 and 9 to form the usual tank and the front portion 9 is bent down soldering the parts'.to
11. The rear portion 8 is bent downwardly as at' 12 and then forwardly as at 13 and then downwardly at right angles" as at 14', which effectively gives the appearance of the rear portion of a tank; The downwardly inclined portion 12 is an aperture through'which protrudes a toy gun i6, wlnlchis secured tothe wall'in any preferred manner The sidewalls audit are provided with turrets l? which are formed preferably from a single sheet,
of metal and soldered to the outer faces of the side walls} The turrets are provided with apertures 18 through which toy guns 19 protrude. 'lihese guns are secured, to the turrets in any preferred manner. 4 The tank is to be painted or printed to simulate the appearance of" a realtanlrv and vertical lines 20ers to be painted on the 1 sides Qand 3 so as to-give the appearance to the-sldesas 1f the same were constructed of plates and a. plurality of black-dots 21 are placed around the of the sides and around therertical lines so as togive the appearance of rivets extending-through the tank, 'llheend and upper walls of the tank are painted in the same manner. The
turrets arealso painted in this manner andmay be further painted so as to give theappearance of real turrets; If so deslred, the
tank may be simply painted so asto give the effect of having turrets and guns instead of having the outstanding turrets l7 and guns 16' and 19, as shown in the drawings.
.Anl axle 2 2 has the terminals thereof journaled -in theiside Walls 2 and 3 adjacent the rear end thereof and have keyed or sloping sides of the their inwardly at 7 and is positioned slightly below the provided with a otherwise secured thereto" the supporting wheels 23' and 24k vwhich "protrude slightly below the lower edgeoff the sidewalls-i The vWheel 24: has secured thereto small gear wheel 25, which meshes with 'a' gear wheelflli which is car- 110 a relatively relatively la'r e r I ried by shaft FT which has its terminals journaled in the'side wallsQ and 3, The rela-W tively large wheel 26 has secured'thereto a relatively small gear 28 which meshes with "a relatively large gear 29 carried by the drum 30 which is carriedby a shaft 31, the terminals of which are j ournaled in the side walls 2 and 3. One end of the shaft 31 projects beyond one of the side walls and has secured thereto a key or handle 32, by means of which the drum may be rotated so as to wind the spring 33 which is coiled around the drum. One terminal of this spring is secured to the drum as at34 and the'oppo-; site terminal is secured to the side walls 2 as zit-35. A pivoted pawl 36 is arranged to' engage the teeth of the relatively large gear 29, so as to hold the same against movement under the influence of the coil spring- 33, when the spring has been Wound up..
A suitable handle 37 is secured to'the pawl, so that the same can be lifted 'outof engagernent with the teeth of the. large gear wheel 29, so thatthe same may be rotated by means of the spring. 33,- when so'desired. While the above described mechanism will givethe desired results, it is to be understood that any suitableclock work mechanism may .be substituted therefor ifso desired.-
A- transverse bracing strip 38 extends- ;across thetank' and has its terminals secured to the, side walls 2 and 3 in any preferred manner.- The strip 38 and the dipper ".wall 7 are provided with 'ali'ned openingswhich rotatably receive a vertical shaft 39,
the lower end ofjwhich. carries an inverted U-shaped yoke 40, theterminals of which areprovided with alined openings which re-- c'eive a relatively short axle 41 upon which is mounted steering wheel l2. The-upper end of vertical shaft 39-is bent at right angles to provide a handle 43 which is positioned above the upper surface of the top wall 7 and forms means whereby the steering wheel 42 may he turned so as to control the-direction of travel of the tank.
From the foregoing descriptiomit can be seen that an improved toy has been provided, which is so constructed as to simulate \the appearance of a tank. While the device has. been described as being made of -sheet 'set forth. 4
ama'ara is to be understood-that the same maybe constructed maybe desired. v I I In practicelhave' fou'nd that'th'e form'of my invention illustrated in-the accompanying drawings and referred to in the above to of .any ma'terial that description, as the "preferred embodiment, is
the most efiicientland'practical; yet realiz ing the conditions'concurrent with-the adoption of "my. device will necessarily vary, I desire to'emphaslz'e that varlous .mmor
changes in details of'construction, propor .tion and arrangement of parts may be resorted to, when required without sacrificing any of the advantages of my What I claim as new is: 1. A figure toycomprising substantially parallelogram side walls, the upper and side edges of the. side walls being provided with .inwardly extending right angular directed flanges, said-flanges beingcrimped,an upper wall connecting the side walls and positioned below'the flanges, theupper wall beinvention as ing provided with inclined front 'and rear 4 extensions to form front andrear walls of the ground.
'75 the toy, and means to'prope'l thetoy over 2, A toy tank comprising parallelograln I side walls, the upper and side edges of the walls being bent inwardly at right angles to.
'pr vide flanges, the flanges being crimpod,
upper wall connecting the side-wallsand positioned below the flanges, front-and rear extensions formed on the upper Wall, an axle carried by the side walls adjacent the rear; ends thereof, wheels secured to the'aXles, ,a
