AUTOMATICIEED CONTROL FOR OIL-BURNERS.
My invention relates to automatic feed control for oil burners, and has for its principal object to provide a device which will the boiler pressure, for controlling the steam and oil supply to the oil burner.
Another object is to provide a device of simple and practical construction and which can be easily adjusted for the purpose of regulating the admission of steam, or the admission of oil, or both, to the burner, as high efficiency may require.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a simple connection whereb steam can be discharged through the 011 burner, at will, for cleaning the same. i
In order that others may understand my invention, I have illustrated one practical embodiment thereof on the inclosed sheet of drawing which I will now describe.
The figure shows a vertical sectional view of one practical embodiment of myinvention, the oil'burner being shown in elevation with a portion of the connections thereto broken out to reduce the size of the figure.
Referring now more in detail to the drawing, the invention, as here illustrated, com- ,prises a main body 1, having therein, atits "up-per end, a steam chamber 2, to which steam is admitted from the steam pi e 3. In the lower end of said body is an 011 chamber 4, to which oil is fed through an oil pipe 5. In the middle of said device is a Said rod 8, has a threaded connection with a sleeve 11, connected with a diaphragm 12, within a diaphragm casing 13. Mounted above the diaphragm casing is a spring casing 14, within which is mounted a coil spring 15, which rests at its lower end upon the diaphragm 12, above the sleeve 11, and at its upper end said spring is provided with Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 2, 1919.
Application filed June 13, 1916. Serial No. 103,594.
a plate 16, controlled by a set screw .17, in the upper end of'the casing 14, whereby the tension of the spring 15, downwardly upon the diaphragm 12, can be regulated. A steam pipe 18, is connected with, the middleportion of thebody 1, and is in open communication with the chamber ,6, formed therein, as clearly illustrated, whereby steam from the chamber 2, admitted by the valve 7, to said chamber 6, passes into said pipe 18, and to the oil burner. An oil pipe 19, is a mounted within the steam pipe18, and is connected through the chamber 6, with the chamber 9, into which the oil passes from the chamber 4, under the :control of the valve 10. A steam pipe 20, is inserted through the wall of the body 1, and into the chamber 9, with its end positioned. to discharge steam into the open end of the oil pipe 19, as clearly illustrated, said pipe 20,
eing connected in any desired manner with the steam pipe 3, as by means of a by-pass pipe 21.. This steam pipe 20, also afl'ords an outlet for an operatm 'rod 22, which extends through the device, through the oil pipe 19, to the oil burner 23, in which it is connected to the end valve 24, for regulating the discharge from the oil burner. As the oil burner forms no part of this invention it,
is not shown in detail. The valve rod 8,
is constructed at its lower end, as at 8,to
receive a wrench or other tool, whereby it can be turned into or out of the sleeve 11, for the purpose of moving the valves 7 and 10, toward or away from their seats, in the control of steam and oil from the chambers 2 and 4, to the chambers 6 and 9, respec tively. Connected with the diaphragm casing 13, is a pressure pipe 25. This pipe is extended to and connected with the boiler, whereby the steam pressure within the boiler is transmitted into the diaphragm casing 13, underneath the diaphragm 12. This pressure operates to flex the diaphragm 12, upwardly against the tension of the spring 15, and in doing so moves the valve members 7 and 10, into their respective seats, and cuts 01f the steam supply and the oil supply, in a manner which will be very clear from the drawings. When the steam pressure in the boiler lowers to such an extent that the tension of the spring flexes the diaphragm 12, downwardly, it opens the valves 7 and 10, and again admits oil and steam to their res ective pipes. Thus, it will be seen that the device operates autos-tively,'tosaid oil'burneigvalve members fon controlling the admission-of oil andsteam, 5
' ed .through sa d; secondfsteam, ando l cha m-r.
100 the oil discharge pipe leading from said matically under the control of the steam. in L. the boiler to supply steam and oil ,forafuel e purposes. By" regulating the tension of the spring 15, by means oftheadjustmentscrew, 17, and by adjusting the positions of the, valves 7 and 10, relative to their valve seats,
by turning the rod 8,in'vvardly or outwardly, asumay be required, a VBIYIIICGH anda' very accurate adjustment can be had, and a very efficient automatic regulation of steam' and- I I p nected thereto, an 011 chamber WltlLOllI supoil secured. 7
