SOLDERING-IRON FURNACE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 26, 1919.
Application filed August 28, 1917. Serial No. 188,564.
To all whom, it may concern Be it known that I, VICTOR BENEDEK, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Soldering-Iron lFurnaces, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in soldering iron furnaces and has for its object the provision of a simple and improved construction of this character adapted to heat soldering irons efficiently.
The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which,

The preferred form of construction as illustrated in the drawings comprises a suitable supporting frame 8, having supporting feet or legs 9 and forwardly extending supporting bars 10 as shown. A main gas supply pipe 11 is mounted in the outer ends of arms 10 and is provided at one end with a gas hose nipple 12 and at the other end with a closing cap 13, said nipple and cap being interchangeable so that the furnace may be connected with the gas supply from either side.
Two supplemental gas supply pipes 14 lead from the pipe 11 and are arranged parallel with each other between the arms 10. Each of the pipes 14: is provided with a manually operable valve 15 for controlling the passage of gas therethrough, and with an automatically operating rotary valve 16 also controlling the passage of gas therethrough. Each of the valves 16 is provided with a comparatively large opening orslit 17 for the passage of a full heating supply of gas and a minute opening 18 for the passage of a small amount of gas to serve to keep the corresponding burner lighted, but consuming a very small quantity of gas. An oscillatory operating frame 19 is mounted upon each of the valves 16 and stop screws 20 are provided with beveled noses 21 arranged to contact with the under sides of the frames 19 on opposite sides of their pivotal point to eliminate oscillations thereof in each direction, and to permit of ad-.
justments of such oscillations. The arrangement is such that oscillation of the frame 19 in one direction opens the passage 17 to permit the flow of a full supply of gas and oscillation in the other direction closes the passage 17 and opens passage 18 to permit the passage of a minute quantity of gas, the oscillations of the frames 19 being nicely adjustable through the medium of screws 20 to effect these ends.
Each of the oscillating frames 19 is pro vided at its inner end with a soldering iron rest 22 and the main frame 8 is provided with a transverse supporting bar 232l, equipped with cooperating soldering iron rests, 25, cooperating with rests 22 to support an ordinary soldering iron 26 at a suitable distance above the corresponding burners 27. The burners 27 are provided with burner holes 28 for the escape of the gas and are closed at their outer ends by means of plugs 29 arranged to fit Within suitable sockets or openings provided in the corresponding side of the frame 8. At their inner ends the burners 27 are supported in suitable sockets or openings formed in the cross bar 23, the upper portion 24: of said cross bar being removable to permit of ready removals or insertions of said burners. Each of the burners 27 is provided at its inner end with a flaring intake 30, having an abrupt shoulder 31 surrounding the entrance to the corresponding burner 27. Each of the pipes 14: is provided with a flaring outlet 32, ar ranged to fit within an inlet 30 and adjustable on its corresponding pipe by means of a set screw 33. By this arrangement a suitable mixing chamber is provided for mixing the gas escaping from the gas pipes 1 1 with air for combustion purposes, the abrupt shoulders 31 serving to create eddies in the mixture to thoroughly mix the same. A suitable removable hood 3 1 is provided for the geception of the soldering irons as indicate By this arrangement a simple and efi'ective means for heating soldering irons is provided. When the soldering iron is placed in position, the corresponding frame 19 is depressed to throw open the corresponding valve 16 and permit the flow of a full supply of gas. However, when the soldering iron is removed the corres onding frame 19 oscillates through the in uence of gravity and cuts off the full supply of gas, but permits a minute supply to flow to the burner through the corresponding opening 18 to keep the burner lighted. WVhen it is desired to entirely cut off the flow of gas and discontinue use of the furnace, the valves 15 are closed.
In Fig. 7 I have illustrated a slightly modified form of construction in which pipes 14 are provided with conical inlets 14' leading from the valves 16, such arrangement tending to facilitate the passage of the gas.
hile I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into elfect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A soldering iron furnace comprising a frame; a gas supply pipe traversing one end of said frame; a nipple at one end of said gas supply pipe and a closing cap at the other, said nipple and cap being interchangeable; two supplemental gas supply pipes leading from said gas supply pipe; a manually operable valve in each of said supplemental pipes; a rotary automatic valve in each of said supplemental pipes, said valve being provided with a minute and a large gas passage therethrough; an oscillatory operating frame secured to each of said automatic valves and provided with a soldering iron rest; a flaring adjustable discharge member at the end of each of said supplemental gas pipes; and a burner for each of said supplemental gas pipes having a flaring intake provided with an abrupt shoulder surrounding the entrance to each burner, substantially as described.
2. A soldering iron furnace comprising a frame; a gas supply pipe traversing one end of'said frame; a nipple at one endof said gas supply pipe and a closing cap at the other, said nipple and cap being interchangeable; two supplemental gas supply pipes leading from said gas supply pipe; a
manually operable valve in each of said supplemental pipes; a rotary automatic valve in each of said supplemental pipes, said valve being provided with a minute and a large gas passage therethrough; an
oscillatory operating frame secured to each of said automatic valves and provided with a soldering iron rest; a flaring adjustable discharge member at the end of each of said supplemental gas pipes; a burner for each of said supplemental gas pipes having a flaring inta ke provided with an abrupt shoulder surrounding the entrance to said burner; and adjusting screws having conical noses arranged to limit the swing of said oscillating frames in each direction, substantially as described.
