De it known that I, Mou'rnunn L. BRAD- LEY, citizen of the United States, residing at Johnson City, in the county of Washington and State of Tennessee, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Caps for Truss-Pads, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved cap for abdominal truss pads and has as its primary object to provide a cap designed foiuse upon the ordinary oval shaped truss pa As is well known, abdominal trusses as now on the market are oenerally equipped with oval shaped pads. have found from practical experience that a pad of this nature tends to press into the rupture and separate the edges thereof so that the rupture is prevented from healing. On the other hand, I have also found from practical eX- perienee that by presenting a flat surface to the rupture, the pad is not only prevented from separating the edges of the rupture but, on the other hand, a reverse result is obtained, namely, a tendency is created to draw the edges of the rupture together so that they may properly heal. The present invention, therefore, has as a further oblject to provide a cap which may be employed in connection with substantially any conventional type of oval shaped pad and which when applied, will provide a flat surface adapted to overlie the rupture.
And the invention has as a still further object to provide a cap which will be simple in construction and which may be readily attached to an ordinary truss pad and as easily detached therefrom.
Other and incidental objects will appear hereinafter. In the drawings:

Referring now more particularly to the drawings, I have shown my improved cap in connection with a conventional type of truss employing the usual padded spring body band 10 at one end of which is mounted an ordinary oval shaped pad 11. In carrying the invention into effect, I employ, in constructing my improved cap, a base plate or bottom wall 12 provided with a marginal flange 13 and having an opening 11 formed centrally therethrough. The base plate is substantially rectangular and the opening 14 is of similarcontour. Normally coacting with the base plate is a cap body 15. This cap body is also rectangular in shape and is adapted to fit snugly within the flange 13 of the base plate 12 frictionally coacting therewith to be properly held upon the base plate. The ca body is provided with a flat top wall 16. referably, the cap body as well as the base plate l2 are each formed of suitable resilient sheet material.
In applying the device, the base plate 12 is first fitted over the pad 11, as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings, the pad being received through the opening. 1/1 in the plate and the plate being moved inwardly upon the pad until the pad binds within said opening. Thus, this base plate will be firmly connected with the pad. The cap body 15 is then engaged with the base plate to overlie the pad, it being observed in this connection that the top wall 1G of the cap body will rest against the pad to be prevented thereby from sagging. Consequently, the flat top wall 16 of the cap will, when the truss is applied in use, be presented to the rupture and will overlie the rupture so that the flat surface of said wall will tend to draw the edges of the rupture together in order that it may heal. I consequently provide a particularly meritorious device. At the same time, the cap is of unusually simple construction and may, without difficulty, be readily applied to a pad of substantially any conventional type of abdominal truss.
Since the cap body is detachable from the base plate of the device, the cap body may be removed at any time desired so that a firm grip may be had upon the base plate for adjusting this plate upon the truss pad. Furthermore, this construction provides an arrangement whereby the cap body may be detached and this body partly filled with a suitable filler or packing so that when the bod is again re laced, al1 looseness between t e cap body, ase plato and the truss pad will be eliminated. Also, it will be seen that in the instance of an unusually large pad, too large for the opening in the base plate, the base plate may be removed from the eap body and the cap body fitted diy from the plate, the baseplate being pro-V vided with an opening adapted to receive a truss pad projecting into the cap body.
