Description
' J. REDWAYQ improvement in Tilting Devices for Pots and Kettles. N0.131,41'0. Patented Sep.1 7,1872.
Ingve {or W 7 1 Wad UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIcE.
ALBERT J. REDWAY, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO REDWAY &
BURTON, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN TILTING DEVICES FOR POTS AND KETTLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 131,410, dated September 17, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT J. REDWAY, of
Cincinnati, Hamilton county, State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Cast Metal for Stove-Pots, of which the following is a specification:
Nature and Objects of Invention.
My invention relates to the construction of cast-metal pots having tapering sides for convenience of molding; and consists, principally, in the provision, in addition to the customary ears for the bail, of an extra perforated lug or car for the attachment of a dumping-handle, the lug 0r ear being located on one side of the pot, midway between the ears for the bail, in
such a way that its upper face molds in the lower part or drag of the flask and its lower face in the upper part or cope, the perforation affording convenience for the attachment of any preferred form of permanent or detachable handle for dumping purposes.
Description of the Accompanying Drawing.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a stove-pot embodying my invention. Fig. 2 illustrates a modification in the construction of the handle.
General Description.
A is the body of the pot, B the customary ears for the bail, and G the bail. D is an additional ear or lug for the attachment of the dumping-handle E. The upper face of the lug D is flush with the top edge of the pot in order that it may be molded conveniently in the lower part or drag of the flask. The
lower face of the lug D is molded in the upper part of the flask in connection with the tapering body of the pot. One or more perforations, d, are formed through the lug or car D for the attachment of the dumping-handle E. This handle may be made in various ways, as shown by two examples, (see Figs. 1 and 2,) it being simply essential that the handle, when not required to act as such, shall hang loosely by the side of the pot at such a distance from the body of the pot as to receive but little heat therefrom, and that it shall, when used, stifi'en out or form a rigid projection at a convenient angle for use as a handle for dumping or tilt ing the pot. In the construction of this handle I prefer that it shall be bent wire, as clearly shown in Fig. 1. This answers all the conditions hereinbefore expressed, and is of simple and cheap construction.
Claim.
In combination with a bailed cast-metal pot, A B 0, having the additional perforated lug D at the rim, the permanently-attached additional handle E, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony of which invention I hereunto set my hand. ALBERT J. REDWAY.
Witnesses:
FRANK MILLWARD, BENJ. BUTTERWORTH.
