To all wh'om it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH Bonnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at J eanerette, in the parish of Iberia and State of Louisiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Projectiles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to projectiles, and more particularly to aerial torpedoes.
The object of the invention is to provide the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, itbeing understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.

In the embodiment illustrated the projectile constituting this invention comprises a main body 1 of cylindrical form having a nose ZWhi-ch tapers toward the forward extremity of the torpedo giving a true projectile shape to the completed article.

A tubular nipple 6 extends from the inner face of cap 5 into the chamber 4: and has a spring 7 coiled therearound abutting at one end against the inner face of the cap 5 and at its other end against a washer 8 carried by the firing pin 9 which extends longitudially through the chamber 3 and out through the nose 2. This firing pin 9 is provided on its front end with a head 10 which is designed to contact with a target or any object which is disposed in the path of the. torpedo when projected. with the target this pin will be forced inwardly against the tension of the spring 7 for a purpose presently to be described. A flange 11 is carried by the pin 9 at a point spaced inwardly from its head 10 and is here shown truncated cone-shaped to conform to the front end of the chamber 12 formed in said nose as is shown clearly in Fig. 2. The front end of the pin is made angular as shown at 13 to'prevent rotation of the pin and said angular portion has an aperture 14 extending transversely therethrough which registers with a similar aperture or bore 15 extending transversely through the nose 2 at its extremity, said registering apertures being designed receive a pin 16 which holds the firing p1n 1n projected position to prevent all possibility of its operating to explode its contents so Mounted on the firing pin 9 within the body 1 and nose 2 are a plurality of hammers 17 made in the form of spiders each having a hub 18 adjustably mounted on the pin by means of a set screw 19. Radlating from each hub 18 are a dplurality of fingers or arms 20, any desire number of which may be employed, according to the number of bombs to be arranged in each series.
The body portion of the torpedo is equipped with a plurality of radially Opening pockets 21 in which are designed to be frictionally held bombs 23, explosive carrying chambers 22 being formed .at'the rear of the bombs in said pockets so that when the explosives contained in said chambers is ignited the bombs will bedischarged from the torpedo and simultaneously fuses 24. carried by said. bombs will be ignited. The foregoing description and the drawings have reference to what maybe considered the preferred or approved form of my invention. It is to be understood that I may make-such changes in construction and arrangement and combinationv of parts, materials, dimensions, etc., as may prove expedient and fall within the scope of the claimed invention.

A projectile of the class described comprising a cylindrical body portion having a tapered nose at its front end, a closure for the butt end of said projectile, threaded therein, a rudder carried by said closure, a firing pin extending longitudinally through said body portion and projecting at its front end through the nose thereof, a flange on said pin for limiting its outward movement, a coiled spring for forcing saidipin outward, a plurality of explosive containin pockets carried by said body portion an opening through the periphery thereof, said pockets being arranged in longitudinally spaced series, firing caps projecting from said pockets, and a plurality of hammers carried by said firing pin and positioned to engage said ca 5 when the pin 1s moved inwardly.
