LEON B. BEALA Y, )F LEBANON, NEW HAMPSHIRE, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSEL AND B. E. LINDSEY, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN GRlNDlNG-MlLLS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 131,385, dated September 17, 1872.
nation and arrangement of parts, by which the mill is rendered easily adjustable to grind of different degrees, either fine or coarse, is made effective in its operation, and can be manufactured very cheaply, as will be more particu larly described.
Figure 1 of the drawing is a vertical longitudinal section through a mill constructed according to my invention. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section; and Fig. 3 is a portion of the disk and surrounding case enlarged.
General Description.
The mill is composed of a case, A, having an inlet, 0, an outlet, E, and a grinding-disk,
B. The disk B is secured upon the drivingshaft 1) and revolves, in the direction of the arrow, within the circular chamber in the case A. The grinding-surfaces of the disk are formed of the radial teeth a a, projecting from the circumference of the disk, and the adjust able plates 12 b, pivoted at c c, and controlled by the set-screws d d or analogous devices;
and as the disk revolves the substance to be ground is caught between these parts and the circumference of the chamber and quickly reduced. The face of the adjustable plates 11 b and of the chamber is roughened in order to act in the most effectual manner. The adjustable plates b are pivoted to the side of the disk B in such manner that, by turning the set-screws d d, they can be thrown out from the edge of the disk and be held at a greater or less distance from the grinding-face of the chamber as the disk revolves. The set-screws d d pass throngh the radial teeth and press against the under side of the plates 12, and the more they are turned against the plates b b theless the distance will be between the surface of the plates and the chamber and the liner the substance will be ground; therefore, by simply changing the position of the plates 1) b the substance can be ground either coarse or fine, as described. The set-screws d d may be provided with check nuts, if required, to hold them securely in place.
Claim.
The combination, with the radial teeth a a upon the disk B, of the adjustable plates 71 b, constructed and operating substantially as and for the purposes described and specified.
