ATER-HEATER A 1\TD AUXILIARYOVEN FOR s'rovns.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented A11 19, 1919,
Application filed July 1 5, 1916. Serial No. 109,507.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS H. STEDMAN, a citizen of the Union of South Africa, residing at Turffontein, Johannesburg, South Africa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in ater-Heaters and Auxiliary Ovens for Stoves; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to Wlilrli it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention has for its object to provide an improved type of auxiliary oven designed for use in connection with various types of cook stoves for utilizing the exhaust products of combustion from the stove in heating. an auxiliary oven.
Another object is the provision of a stove attaehi'nent embodying a water reservoir forming a jacket for the oven and designed to utilize the heated products of combustion from the stove to heat the water.
WVith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter specifically described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 represents a front elevation of the improved water heater and auxiliary oven applied to a stove of a well known type, the latter being partially broken away,
Fig. 2 represents a vertical sectional view through the heater and oven removed,
Fig. 3 represents a vertical sectional view at right angles to Fig. 2 in the plane of the line 3-3 of Fig. 2, and
Fig. 4 represents a horizontal sectional view on the line H of Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawings in detail, wherein similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the numeral 5 indicates enerally the outer casing of the oven incluc ing the rear wall 6, tapered top and bottom 7 and 8, respectively, front wall 9 and the removable side walls 10, which lattter are supported in guides 11 carried by the side edges of the top and bottom 7 and 8, respectively, and abuts the front and rear walls. The lower end or bottom 8 of the outer casing connects with a pipe section 12 adapted for connection with the outlet port 13 of a preferred type of stove 14.
An internal casing or oven compartment 15 is supported by the rear and front walls 6 and 9, respectively of the outer casing and is arranged in spaced relation to the removable side walls 10, the front of the inner casing or compartment 15 being open and communicating with an opening formed in the front wall 9, which is adapted to be closed by a hinged door 16. A damper 17 is arranged in the outlet pipe section 18, which latter communicates with the upper portion of the outer casing 5 and is designed for controlling the passage of the products of combustion through the outer casing.
The two sides and bottom of the inner casing 15 are inclosed by a water jacket 19, designed to contain a quantity of water to be heated. A faucet 20 is connected with the lower portion of the jacket 19 for draining the latter, and a filling spout 21 is arranged in the upper portion of the front wall 9 to facilitate filling of the jacket or container. The sides of the outer casing 5 are connected with the top of the stove 14 by braces 22.
oppositely arranged battle plates 23 are arranged in the passage 24: between the side walls of the inner and outer casings 15 and 5, respectively, and are designed to cause the products of combustion passing through the outer casing to traverse a circuitous course and thereby have a maximum heating effect upon the inner casing and water container 19.
What is claimed is:
A water heater and auxiliary oven comprising a rear wall, tapered top and bottom walls secured to the rear wall, a front wall secured to the top and bottom walls and having a doorway, a hinged door closing said doorway, flanges formed upon the side edges of the top and bottom walls, removable sides slidably mounted within said flanges and having abutting engagement with the front and rear walls, an oven secured to the front and rear wall and in communication with the doorway of the front wall, said oven being relatively spaced from the top, bottom, and side walls to form a chamber, partition walls carried by the front and rear walls and spaced from the oven and side walls to form a water jacket about the oven, oppositely arranged baflie plates positionecl within the assage occurring between the partition wall and the removable s de walls to cause the products of combustion V a stove, legs for supporting the device upon passing through the outer passage to trav- In testimony whereof I affix my signature erse a circuitous course, a pipe connectlng in presence of tWo Witnesses. the apex of the bottom wall with the flue of THOMAS H STEDMAN.
a stove, an outlet pipe connected to the apex Witnesses: v of the top Wall, and a damper within said WILFRID SEAMHEAD, outlet pipe. M. K. MCLEE.
