To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, MARK HARRIS, a citizen of the United States, andresidingat New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain,

new and useful Improvements in Combination Letter-Sheets and Envelops,-of which the following is a specificatiomsuch as will;

enable those skilled in the art to'which it appertains to make and use the same. I

This invention relates to combination letter sheets and envelope designed to be used in personal and all business correspondence, such as letter heads, invoices, checks and the like; and-the object of the invention is to simplify the form and construction of such devices so as to reduce the cost of the manufacture of the sameaa further object being to provide a foldin pocket flap at one end of asheet from whic a combination letter sheet and envelop is made, the width of said flap being such as to facilitate the printing of the return card in the upper left hand corner of the flap when folded which return card will appear in the upper left hand corner-of the envelop formed by foldin the sheet as hereinafter set out; and a sti 1 further object being to so construct the combination sheet as to facilitate the printing of the return card and the title to the letter head in one operation; and with these and other objects in view the invention consists in a device of the class and for the purpose specified, constructed. and operating as hereinafter described and claimed.

The invention described and claimed herein is an improvement on that described and claimed in a prior U. Sapplication for a patent filed by me September 15, 1917, Serial No. 191,649, and is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the 1 separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views and in which Fi ire 1 is a plan view of a blank from whicl i one of my improved combination letter sheets and envelops are formed; 7

When the sheet 10 is blank as shown in Fig. 1 and designed to be used as a business letter sheet, the pocket flap- 16 is folded in-" i wardly upon the body portion 11 as shown in Fig. 2, andsaid sheet when in such position may be passed through a suitable printing apparatus to print in oneoperation, the return cardas indicated at 2 8 in Fig. 2 and the1 title to the letter sheet. as shownat 29, an printed matter thatmay be desired to be .ap plied to said sheet.

It willbe. noted that the sheet is of; such construction as to facilitate the passage thereof through a typewriter or similar machine in writing the desired letter upon the sheet, and in folding the sheet prior to mailing the member 13 is first folded on the score line 14 inwardly upon the member 12, and said 'members thus folded are folded upon the score line 15 inwardly upon the body portion 11 with the free edge of the members 12-13 beneath the folding pocket flap 16 into the position shown in Fig. 3, after which the sealing flaps 26 may be moistened and folded lnwardly upon the

23 and 25 of the member 12 and flap such other advertising .matter 01? 16 to seal the sheet thus folded to form the envelop, and this position of. the sheet is shown in Fig. d.

It will be understood that the envelop may be addressed to the desired party when in the position shown in Fig. 4:, or the address may be applied'to the back of the member 12 when the sheet is in its extended position as shown in Fig. 2, and the party receiving the letter and desiring to read the contents thereof, simply tea-rs off the parts 22 to 25 inclusive, at the opposite sides of the body portion 11, members 12-43 and flap 16 on the lines of perforations 2021, which will leave a continuous and unobstructed sheet 30 as shown in Fig. 5 of the drawing, containing only the letter printed, typewritten or otherwise applied to the sheet and the printed return card 28 on the back of the flap 16, which return card is not shown in Fig. 5.

It will be apparent that my improved combination letter sheet and envelop may.

be used in all kinds and classes of correspondence, such as personal and business correspondence, and may be made up into v check and invoice form in all of which uses velop which may be easily opened and which will avoid the destructionof independent sheets placed within the envelop and independent of the main sheet, and again, it will be impossible for others than the party to whom the letter is addressed 4 to open the envelop without showing evidence of such action.

While I have shown but one form of letter sheet and envelop, it will be understood that my invention is not limited to this form of device and various changes in and modifications. of the details of construction herein shown and described may be made, within the scope of the appended claim, without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificing its advantages.

Having; fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

A combination letter sheet and envelop blank consisting of a body portion having on one side edge thereof an ungummed pocket flap of materially less width than the body portion and folded inwardly thereon, said body portion being provided at its opposite side edge with a member adapted to be folded inwardly upon said body portion, the free edge of said member when folded being under the pocket flap and the transverse width of said member and said pocket flap being the same, the body portion being of greater transverse dimensions than the other parts to provide unitary sealing flaps at the opposite sides thereof which are adapted to be folded inwardly upon said member and said pocket flap to form asealed envelop, and the body portion, said member and the pocket flap being provided inwardly of the side edges thereof and inwardly of'said sealing flaps with parallel rows of perforations which form strips extending the full length of the body portion, member and pocket flap which are adapted to be torn off in opening the envelopto leave a plain and unobstructed letter sheet when open, said blank before being folded for use as an envelop having the pocket flap folded down upon the body portion and v certain printed matter then placed thereon.
