In the construction and erection of' spiral chutes of the type embodying a sectional spiral slideway supported upon a central standard, more or less difiiculty is encountered in securing said slideway-sections upon the standard. The usual method is to rivet or bolt the sections to the standard, after bending their inner ends a short distance around said standard. In carrying out such practice, the device is assembled at the factory, knocked down for shipment and finally erected at destination. In assembling the device at the factory, perforations extending through the standard (or partly therethrough and tapped) are formed, and these perforations are made to register with perforations in the slideway-sections to receive fastening bolts or screws.
One purpose of my present invention is to avoid this labor and obviate the necessity of Shipping the standard (heavy piping) to the place of erection.
Generally, it is my object to provide a simple and efficient spiral chute, inexpensive in construction and adapted to be easily and properly assembled by inexperienced hands.
More particularly, it is my object to pro vide in a device of this kind, simple slideway-sections and novel attaching devices cooperating therewith and adapted to conveniently secure the sections upon the central support.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation, showing a fragmentary view of my improved spiral chute; Fig. 2 is a detail sectional view taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is a perspective view in detail, illustrating a portion of a slideway-Section, a portion of a central support and a clamp securing said section to said support.
Referring to the drawings, I have used the reference letters A, B and C to indicate respectively the central support, the slideway-sections and the clamps. The central through said perforations.

jacent to said flange 14 andat the middle to receiveone of theclamps G. ,Said clamps (l are identlcal, each comprising an Iron band 16 which passes over the flange 14: of a slideway-sect1on, thence through the aperture 15 therein and around the standard A. The ends of said band 16 do not quite meet on the periphery of the standard, but are bent outward to form arms 17 and 18, and then bent toward each 1 other to form respectively lugs 19 and 20. The lug 20 bridges the gap between the arms 17 and 18 and abuts against the outer end of the arm 17 while the lug 19 overlaps said lug 20 and holds it in engagement with said arm 17. Near the middle of said arms, alined perforations 21 are formed, and a bolt 22 supplied with a nut 23 passes The head 24 of the bolt 22, as shown, bears against the arm 18 and the nut 23 against the other arm 17; however, said bolt 22'may be reversed if desired. The tightening of the nut 23 upon the bolt 22 draws the arms 17 and 18 toward each other and clamps the flange 14: of a section B against the standard A. It is obvious that by the use of this clamp, sections B may be placed upon the standard in any position desired,
both radially and horizontally, and that they may-be secured as conveniently in one position as in another.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect b", Letters Patent, is:
1. In a chute of the class described, a central cylindrical post, a slideway section having a segmental flange turned back from the sliding surface thereof and designed to partly surround said post, said section being formed with a slot adjacent the flange, a clamp comprising a band, encircling the post, passing through said slotand overlapping said flange, and means at the adjoining ends of said band located behind the slideway section and adapted to grip the flange against the post.
2. In a chute of the class described, a spiral slideway composed of identical sections, a central standard to support said sections, each of said sections having a flange at its inner end fitting the periphery of said standard and being formed with an aperture adjacent to said flange, and a clamp for each slideway-section comprising a band passing over the flange, through the aperture therein and encircling the standard, said band being supplied at its ends with means for clamping said flanges against the standard.
3. In a chute of the class described, a spiral slideway, a central standard therefor, said slideway having flanges thereon adapted to fit the periphery of said standard, and clamps encircling the standard and flanges, each of said clamps comprising a band having its ends bent outward to form arms, then turned toward each other to form lugs, one of said lugs bridging the space between said arms and the other lug overlapping said first mentioned lug, and a bolt passing through said arms to draw the inner ends thereof together.
4. In a chute of the class described, a standard, a plurality of slideway-sections surrounding said standard, and a clamp to secure each section upon the standard, each clamp comprising a band curved to fit almost around the periphery of said standard, the ends of said band being bent outward to form arms, then turned toward each other to form overlapping lugs, the lug on one arm abutting against the outer end of the other arm, and a bolt passing through said arms and supplied with a nut to draw the inner ends of the arms toward each other and thereby tighten the band snugly about the periphery of the standard.
