UNITED STATES" PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN I. BAYLOB, OF DODGE GI'I'Y, KANSAS.
WRENCH.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed March 14, 1919. Serial No. 2823M.
citizen of the United States, residing at Dod e City, in the county of Ford and State of ans-as, have invented certain new ant useful Improvements in Wrenches; do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable other skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and' use the same, reference being had to the accompw to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to an automobile wrench and is particularly adapted for loosening and tightening cific use contemplated being the engagement of the nut on the roar connecting rod which -is generally inaccessible by the ordinary wrench.
In the drawings,
Figure I designates a partially sectional view of an explosion engine to which my invention is adapted, and
Fig. II is a detail perspective View of the wrench.
Referring now to the drawings by numerals of reference:
1 designates an engine casing and 2 an opening therein, usually covered by 'a re- In the casing is a crank 3 which drives a piston 4 in the cylinder 5 by the usual connecting rod 6 fastened to the crank by the coupling 7 through the nut or nuts as indicated at 8 on the connecting r0 may be introduced the nuts on a connect hammer to permit the body 10 to engage the ing rod of a motor vehicle engine, the spe- 9. In order to have access to the nut, I have provided a wrench as best shown in Fig. 11, as comprising a rigid jaw 10, a handle 11, a shank connecting the handle and rigid jaw, said shank being bent to fOIlll a double elbow portion 12 with a portion 13 inclined from the double elbow portion and terminally supporting the jaw, the jaw and handlc being in axial alinement so that when the oppositely projecting portions 14 and 15' of the handle are grasped to turn the wrench, the nuts may have power alined thereto in axial alinement at the point of application of the power. The double elbow port-ion 12 is in'no wise a hand grip or handle but is an oil-set whereby the wrench through the slot 2 in a nut.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new therein, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
As a new article of manufacture, a wrench for connecting rods of motor vehicle motors comprising a rigid jaw, a handle, and a. shank connecting the handle and the jaw, said shank being bent to form a double elbow portion connected to the handle and a portion inclined from the double elbow portion and terminally supporting the jaw, the
'aw and handle being in axial alinement, the
- Jww being rigid with the handle whereby the shank'may be turned through the medium of the handle.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
