J. E. McKERLIE.
SOAP CUTTER. APPLICATION FILED NOV. 18. I918.
Patented Aug. 5, 1919.
nfra STATES PATENT onnion.
JOHN E. MOKEBLIE, OF WATERFORD, ONTARIO, CANADA.
SOAP-CUTTER.
Application filed November 18, 1918.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN E. MoKEnLIE, a citizen of Canada, and resident of Waterford, Ontario, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Soap- Cutters, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to novel and useful improvements in cutting devices, and more particularly to an improved device for cutting or disintegrating soap, so as to discharge the same into the vessel in which the soap is to be melted or dissolved, for washing or other purposes.
An object of the invention is to provide an improved form of cutter which will thoroughly slice and disintegrate the soap in a quick and eflicient manner, the device being simple in construction, eflicient in use, and economical to produce.
With the above and other objects in view, as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention comprises the various novel features of construction and arrangement of parts which will be more fully described herein and set forth with particularity in the claim appended hereto.
Reference is had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this application, in which like reference characters indicate the corresponding parts throughout the several views, in which- Figure 1 is a horizontal sectional view of my improved soap cutter, and
Fig. 2 1s a vertical sectional view thereof.
As shown in the drawings, my improved soap cutter includes a frame or body 10 which may be of rectangular, cylindrical or other construction, the same having an opening 11 in the top thereof, and having an open bottom 12, the container being designed to be placed into or above a vessel in which the soap is to be deposited when out, so as to be melted, dissolved or otherwise made use of, as in washing Or other purposes.
Journaled transversely through the frame or container 10 is a pair of parallel shafts 13, eachof which carries a spiral bladed cutter 14, the edges of the cutter being designed to come together as shown at 15, just missing but providing for an efficient cutting action.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Serial No. 263,025.
Mounted on the ends of the shafts 13 are coacting and intermeshed gears or pinions 16, and one of the shafts is extended as shown at 17 to provide forthe attachment of a illli" die or other drive means 18. 'In this'manner by turning the handle '18, rotation will be imparted to the shaft, in opposite directions, so that the cutters will be similarly rotated. p
In the operation of the device the soap is placed in the opening 11 upon the cutters, and as the cutters are rotated the soap will be cut into slices or disintegrated, owing to the soap being pressed downwardly upon the cutting blades and especially due to the spiral formation of the same, as described. The pieces or slices of soap will then be deposited through the bottom opening 12 into the container, which may consist of a tub or other vessel, in which the soap is tobe used for washing or other purposes. This will greatly facilitate the melting or dissolving of the soap for the use to which it is to be ut. V 10 From the foregoing'description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it is thought that a clear and comprehensive understanding of the construction, operation, and advantagesof. my invention Patented Aug. 5, 1919.
structure, I desire that it be understood that such changes may be made in said structure as do not depart from the'spirit andscope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
A soap side walls, parallel shafts extending through the casing intermediate its height in spaced relation and in the same horizontal plane, spiral cuttingblades extending about the shafts and having their cutting edges extending adjacent the walls of the casing and between the shafts extending in close relation but out of contacting relation, means for rotatingone of said shafts, and means for transmitting rotary movement from one shaft to the second shaft.
In testimony whereof, I afiix my signature hereto. 1
' JOHN E. MoKER-LIE.
