In the embodiment illustrated the device constituting this invention comprises a base plate 1 having vertically ad ustable supporting legs 2, any desired number on which may be employed; four being here sliow'n, and it may be secured te -the work by any suitable means; These legs are held in adjusted positionto" prevent acci'dental turning thereof'by lock nuts i T his-base plate 1 is preferably substantially rectangular in form and" tapers toward one end, being provided at its small end with a gear lemming are a plurality of annular gear'seats 5, three of which are here shown, thetw-o' foremost being substantially of the same size and the rearinostbeing larger. The front end of said lever is twisted as shown at 26toposition its terminal in a plane at right angles to its body portion andthis terminal 27 has its free end inclined transversely as shown at 28 and is preferably provided on each face with a rib 29. This lever is designed to beinserted sidewise into the socket 23 atthe rear end of the rock lever 18 as is shown clearly in Figs. 1 and 3 and; is held against accidental disengagement therefrom byn eans of the rib 29.
This lever 24 has a handgrip 30 at its outer end, the fulcrum of said lever being positioned much nearerits front than its rear end so that aigreater leverage may be obtained for actuating the rock lever 18 against the tension of spring 16 for lowering the cutting tool 14. It is to be understood that this lowering of the cutting tool-provides for the extension orjncrease in the depth ofthe, counter bore formed thereby.

We claim 1. In a device of the class described, a base plate a shaft extending therethrough, a cutter fixed to said shaft and positioned on one side ofsaid base plate, a spring mounted on said-shaft on the other side of said base plate and adapted to hold said cutter in close proximity to said base plate, a rocking lever having one end positioned over said shaft for moving it against the tension of said spring, and a feed lever fulcrumed on said plate and adapted to engage said rocking lever for actuating it to project said cutter.
2. In a device of the class described, a base plate having a plurality of seats formed in one face thereof and communicating with each other, gears mounted in said seats and meshing with each other, a shaft carried by one of said gears and extending through said base plate, a cutter fixed to said shaft on the face of said plate opposite to that in which said seats are formed, a stop on the other end of said shaft, a coiled spring mounted on said shaft between said stop and the gear carried thereby, means for actuating said gears to rotate said cutter, and means under the control of the operator for projecting said shaft against the tension of said spring to vary the depth of the bore formed by the cutter. .7
3. In a device of the class described, a base plate having a plurality of seats formed in one face thereof and communicating with each other, gears mounted in said seats and meshing with each other, a shaft carried by one of said gears and extending through said base plate, a cutter fixed to said shaft on the face of said plate opposite to that in which said seats are formed, a stop 011 the other end of said shaft, a coiled spring mounted on said shaft between said stop and the gear carried thereby, means for actuating said gears to rotatesaid cutter, a rocking lever positioned above said base plate and having one end arranged over said shaft to engage the head thereof and its other end provided with a socket, a feed lever fulcrumed above the base plate and adapted to engage s'aid' socket whereby on the movement of the feed lever said rocking lever will be actuated to project said cutter against the tension of its spring.
4. In a device of the class described, a base plate, vertically adjustable legs engaged therewith, a rocking lever fulcrnmed on said plate in a plane above one face thereof, a
spring retracted cutter having a shaft positioned in the path of one endof said lever, a swiveled standard mounted on said plate, a feed lever fulcrumed on said standard, cooperating means carried by adjacent ends of said levers for cooperative engagement, a train of gearing connected to rotate said cutter, andmeans for actuating said gearing.
5. In a device of the class described, a base plate, adjustable legs engaged therewith, means for locking said legs in adjusted posit-ion, a shaft extending through said plate and having a cutter fixed to one end thereof and a gear to its other end, a stop carried by said last mentioned end at a point spaced from said gear, a coiled spring mounted on said end between said stop and gear, the shaft being slidable in said gear but rotatable therewith, a train of gears connected to actuate said shaft carried gear, and means under the control of the operator for projecting said shaft against the tension of its spring for regulating the cutting depth of the cutter.

In a device of the class described, a base plate, adjustable legs engaged therewith, means for locking said legs in adjusted Copies of this patent may be obtained for position, a shaft extending through said plate and having a cutter fixed to one end thereof and a gear to its other end, a stop carried by said last mentioned end at a point spaced from said gear, a coiled spring mounted on said end between said stop and gear, the shaft being slidable in said gear but rotatable therewith, a train of gears connected to actuate said shaft carried gear, a rocking lever having one end positioned to engage said shaft and its other end provided with a socket opening through its side edges, a feed leverfulcrumed on said base plate and swiveled to move in a horizontal plane, said feed lever having one end flattened and beveled at its terminal for interlocking engagement with the socket of said rocking lever whereby on the actuation of said feed lever said rocking lever is operated to project said cutter.
