RACK'FOR SEED-PACKETS.
To all whom it may concern: 1
Be it known that I, LnoNAnnHD; Knorr, a" citizen of the United States, residing at ,Sterling, in the county of /Vhiteside and Stateof; Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Racks forjSeed- Packets, of whichthe, followingv is a specification. I
My inventlon has reference to a rack for seed-packets such as displayed in stores. It is simple and durable in construction, and-- capable of being reduced to a compact space for the purpose of being transported or stored. The latter purpose is important, for the reason that such devices are only in use for a small portion of each year.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side view of my device, when in use. Fig. 2 is a front view thereof. Fig. 3 is a vertical section through the body portion of the invention, in partially folded position. Fig. 4: is a a perspective view of one of the frames 3.
1 represents a board of any desired form and pro ortions, provided with series of perforatlons 2, adapted to receive the ends of frames 3, preferably formed of a continuous piece of wire. Said frames comprise a pair of parallel bars 4 united at one end by a cross bar 5, and diagonal arms 6 at the opposite ends of said bars, united in a coiled arm 7. The engaging end of the frame is turned upwardly into a hook 8, formed of the end of one of the wires in the arm 7. The other wire of the coil is out so as to form a shoulder 9, which has a bearing against the board 1, and limits the extent to which the arm 7 may be projected through such board.
To place one of the frames 3 in position, the outer end thereof is tipped upwardly to permit the insertion of the hook 8 in one of the openings 2. The frame is then turned downwardly until the bar 5 rests against the board 1, holding the bars 4 at approxi mately a right angle with the face of such board. Said frames are provided in series, as shown in Fig. 2, and when thus arranged are adapted to receive a number of seedpackets 10, of usual shape and size, the lower edges of the packets resting upon the adjacent bars 4 of two adjoining frames. When the holes 2 are provided at proper intervals, the space between two adjacent Specification of Letters Patent.

arms 7 will be a little greater than the .width of the packet, so as :to conveniently in bunches, so as to be easily. visible for their full lengths, and capable of being readily removed or replaced. The bars 4 form the bottoms of such pockets, the bars 7 the sides thereof, the board 1 the rear, and the arms 6 the front.
The engagement of the bar 5 of each of the frames with the face of the board 1 prevents a swinging movement of the frame in one direction or the other. For the purpose of shipment or storage the frames 3 can all be removed and packed together, such frames being capable of being nested one within the other, very compactly.
For the purpose of cheapness of production and durability, the board 1 is preferably formed of a sheet of metal.
Any suitable means may be employed for supporting the device, but there is shown in the drawings a folding frame which is especially designed for use therewith. This frame comprises plates 11, attached to the board 1, near the ends thereof, arms 12 pivotally connected with said plates at the upper ends thereof, and cross-legs 13 and 14 pivoted to the lower ends of the members 11 and 12, respectively. The spread of the frame, when in open position, is limited by a foldin brace 15, having a pivotal connection with the frame at the points of junction of the legs therewith. The pivot 16 of the legs is preferably in the form of a rod, extending from one pair of legs to the other.
When it is desired to fold the frame, the brace 15 is doubled until the parts thereof overlap, which results in the arms 12 coinciding in position with the plates 11, and the le s 13 and 14 overlapping. Such legs can t on be turned upwardly and rearwardly, as indicated in Fig. 3, until they come in contact with the board 1. It will be seen that the board and frame thereupon occupy a very limited space. Said folding frame is preferably formed of metal throughout, and it will be obvious that when in open position the structure of said frame is such as to hold the board 1 in a sloping board 1, may be formed with a Vertical bar 17 in place of the usual diagonal bar zG-aty the outer side thereof.
l/Vhile my invention has been shown. and
described herein in its preferred embodiment, and for a specified'use, changes 'can' be made in the form and structure thereof, withoutdeparting from the spirit of the in- -vent1on, and the same can be made use of for the support of other-articles besides those set forth herein. V wvh t I claim as -my in vention, and desire tojsecure, is i i I 1. In aydevice ofthe class described, in
combination with aboard, provided with The frames '3, which are atthe alas o f't he' suitable perforations, an article supporting member, .oompr sing a pair of parallel bars unlted by a cross bar at thelr lnner ends,
diagonal arms; connecte'd yvith the uopposite ends ofQstid-barsand united in an arm provided with in'e ans for engagement with one of' said perforations.
2. In a device of the class described, in
combination with a supporting boardprovided with suitable perforations, a packet si ipportingmember formed of a continu- 'ous plece of wire, and comprising a pair of parallel bars u'nlted at one end by ,a cross bar, d agonal arms at the opposlte ends of said *barssnnited in a coile'c'l'arm ata point 'midwa'y' of said parallel barsg and means on the'fend of coiled arm'for engage'-" mentwith one of said perforations;
In testimony whereof I affix-my signature.
