I To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JosErH C. BAKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Denver, in the countyof Denver and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Thermal Circuit- Closers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to thermostatic alarms for incubators, store rooms, and the lever.
Another object is to provided an improved circuit closer for use in connection with this mechanism.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention. 1

In the embodlment illustrated, the mechanism constituting this invention is shown applied to an incubator I, although obviously it may be used in connection with any chamber or room in which it is desired to maintain a uniform temperature and to its Secured to' the outer face of one side wall of the incubator I is a plate 1 having a tubular member extendin laterally therefrom and'which is designe to. communicate with the interior of the incubator for supplying heat from the lamp chimney 3 which extends into said member 2. A bracket or post 5 is fixed to the plate 1 and extends above the top thereof and has fulcrumed thereon a lever 6 provided at one end with an adjustable weight 7, and having a plurality of apertures 8 to provide for the changing of its fulcrum. Another series of apertures 9 are also formed in this lever 6 for a purpose presently to be described. The end of the lever opposite to that which carries the weight 7 has a loose connection with the damper 4 as is shown clearly in Fig. 1 and an arm 10 rises from this end of the lever and is provided at its terminal with a laterally extending finger 11 for a purpose presentl to be described.
A ro 12 isadjustably engaged with the lever 6 having a Connection with one'of the apertures 9 and its other end is connected with one arm 13 of a lever fulcrumed in the side Wall of the incubator as shown at 14:. The other arm 15 of this lever is connected with a thermostat 16 arranged within the egg chamber of the incubator, it being understood that this thermostat is to be placed in any chamber the temperature of which is to be controlled thereby.
Secured to the upper edge of the incubator I is an L-shaped plate 17, the short arm 18 of which is secured to the incubator by suitable fastening means, while the long arm 19 extends upwardly above the incubator and is slotted longitudinally as shown at 20. Extending through the upper end or arm 19 is a screw threaded rod 21 having an actuating head or handle 22 at its u per end and at its lower end is provided wit a disklike head 23 with an unthreaded neck portion 24 between the head 23 and the body proper of the rod. This neck 24 is designed to extend through the inner end of a bar 25 having loose connection therewith, so that 7 the bar 25 being carried'by the screw and causing the screw havin threaded connection with the arm 19 of p ate 17. A scale or gage 26 is arranged on one face of the arm 19 adj acent one side wall of the slot 20 and is designed to cooperate with a movable bar 25 for setting the mechanism as will be presently described.
Another bar 27 extends laterally from the arm 19 of plate 17 and is arranged in vertical alinement with the bar 25 and parallel therewith. Between these two bars 25' and 27 the finger 11 of the arm 10 carried by lever .6 extends A binding post 28 is carried by the plate 17 and is designed to connect therewith an electric conducting wire 29. This wire 29 leads from a battery B and has a switch 30 interposed therein for a purpose presently to be described. A bell 31 is interposed in the wire 32 which leads from the battery to lever 6 as is shown clearly in Fig. 1.
The plate 17, it is of course understood is insulated from the incubator I and the circuit is closed by the engagement of the finger 11 with either bar 25 or 27, it of course being understood that the switch. 30 must first be closed before this closing of the circuit between the bars and finger, as no closure can be effected while the switch remains In the use of this apparatus, the switch 30 is first closed, it being shown open in Fig. 1, and when the parts are in the position shown. in Fig. 1, the electric circuit is open. Should the temperature in the incubator chamber become excessive, the thermostat 16 will exand thereby raising the lever arm 15 causmg the arm 13 to move downwardly and through rod 12 exert a downward pull on the lever 6 with which it is connected. This pull causes the other end of the lever with which arm 10 is connected to rise, thereby lifting the damper 4 and at the same time the finger 11of said arm to contact with bar 25 and close the electric circuit thereby rin g bell 31 and sounding the alarm whic notifiesthe person in charge that attention to the incubator is needed. The attendant immediately opens switch 30 to break the circuit, stop the bell and prevent unnecessa depletion of the battery. He then ascertains what is required in relation to the incubator and after properly adjusting it, again closes the switc so that the device is ready for use to sound another alarm when necessary.
It is of course understood that should the temperature in the chamber of the incubator or other chamber in connection with which the apparatus is used fall, the thermostat 16 will contract and thereby lower the lever arm 15 and raise arm 13, so that the lever 6 through rod 12 will have its front end lowered to close the damper land to bring the finger 11 into contact with the bar 27, again closing the electric circuit and sounding an of the method of operation will be readil;
apparent to those skilled in the art to which the invention appertains and while I have described the principle of operation of the invention together with the device which-I now consider to be the best embodiment thereof, I desire to have it understood that ii the device shown is merely illustrative and that such changes may be made as are within the scope of the claimed invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I clalm as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination with a chamber having a thermostat therein, a lever fulcrumed intermediately of its ends with one end extending into said chamber and connected with said thermostat, the other end extending'outside the chamber, a rod connected with the outer lever end, a lever fulcrumed intermediately of its ends and adjustably engaged with said rod on one side of the lever fulcrum, an upstanding arm carried by the other end. of said last-mentioned lever, an electric circuit having spaced contacts positioned in the path of said arm, one wire of said circuit being connected with said arm carrying lever, and the other with said contacts.-

The combination with a chamber having a thermostat therein, a lever fulcrumed lntermediately of its ends with one end extending into said chamber and connected with said thermostat, the other end extendin outside the chamber, a rod connected Wltl'l the outer lever end, a lever fulcrumed intermediately of its ends and having a plurality of longitudinally spaced apertures for ad ustable engagement of said rod on one side of the lever fulcrum, an upstanding arm carried by the other end of said lever, an electric circuit including spaced contacts, said arm having a finger arranged between sald contacts to engage one or the other when the arm is moved, one wire of said circuit being connected with said arm carrying lever and the other with said contacts.
3. In a temperature alarm for incubators, an alarm circuit, a circuit closer therefor comprising a longitudinally slotted metal tioned bar, and a thermostatically controlled mem'ber included in said circuit and movable between said bars whereby the circuit is closed on the engagement of said member with either bar.
4. In a temperature alarm for incubators, an alarm circuit, a circuit closer therefor comprising a longitudinally slotted metal plate having means for attaching it to a support and electrically connected with one pole of said circuit, a screw rod extending through one end of said plate into said slot, a bar carried by said rod and extending laterally from said plate, and having swiveled said bars,
connection therewith, another bar fixed to 16 said plate parallel and in alinement with said first-mentioned bar, an upstanding arm having a lateral finger extending between electric circuit wires connected with said plate and arm, and means for 20 moving said arm to engage its finger with one bar or the other.
