To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CECIL H. Borrow, a citizen of the United States, residing in Louisville, county of J eiferson, and State of Kentucky, have invented a new and useful Garment-Former, of which the following is a specification.
This specification relates to a method of ironing shirt sleeves.
The method by which shirt sleeves are most generally ironed, is to spread, the sleeves out smoothly on a padded flat surface and move a heated fiat iron manually to and fro over it, until the wrinkles are all removed. This method is too slow for the modern commercial laundry so recourse has been had to other methods such as pressing the sleeve between two padded steam heated surfaces; another method is placing the sleeve between a padded rotatable roll and a concave heated iron, which conforms to, and extends about, a portion of the circumference of the roll, and exerting tractionon the sleeve as the roll turns. These methods while more speedy than that of the old style fiat iron are not as efficient as desired inasmuch as unnecessary time and labor is consumed in spreading out and preparing the sleeve for subjection to the action of the machine.
An object of this invention is to provide a method of ironing shirt sleeves which will not require a preliminary preparation of the sleeve before subjection-to the action of the device by means of which the ironing is accomplished.
A further object is to provide means of the character described which may be economically constructed and which will be eflicient in service and durable in operation.
7 The invention may be understood from a consideration of the following detailed description taken in connectionwith theaccompanying drawing which forms a part of the specification, with the understanding however that while the drawing shows a practical embodiment of the invention, the latter is by no. means limited to exact conformity therewith, but may be embodied in any other form which may come within the scope of the claims appended hereunto.

The heads of cap-screws 21- bind on the edge of the flange 23, and serve to retain the parts in their relative positions. By loosening the cap screws the form may be adjusted about its axis to give it the position which best suits the convenience of the operator. In operation live steam is admitted to the interior of the form through the pipe 26, whereby it is delivered close to the forward end, heating it to a suitable temperature. The water of condensation accumulates in the lower end until it overflows through the passage 2-8. An operator then takes position along side, with a number of shirts, properly conditioned for ironing, within convenient reach, grasping a shirt, with both hands, in proximity to an armhole, she inserts the form into the sleeve through the arm hole, in such a manner that the upper edge of the sleeve will correspond with that of the form, and draws the sleeve down over the form until an offset 30 engages with the cuff band.
