Be it known that I, LUKE W. Riemen, a citizen of the United States, residing at' Mountain View, in the county of Howell and State of Missouri, have invented new and useful Improvements in Check-Protec tors., of which the following is a specification..

The principal object 0f the invention is to provide a device on which a check is placed when beinpfilled out so that the check may be permanently marked during the filling out'operation, thereby preventinpr its beineF changed thereafter without leaving evidences of such an attempted change in the check.

Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character' which is simple in construction, durable and eective in operation7 and which can be manufactured at low cost.

Other and further objects will appear as the invention is set forth in detail in the description which follows.

To the exact construction in which it is shown and described, the device is not to be restricted. The actual practical application ma] make manifest certain desirable changes or alterations and the right is claimed to make any which do not depart from the spirit of the sub-joined claim.

Rcferring'dto the drawings, there is shown made preferably of steel and rectangular in plan, the plate being made identical in size with the size of the check with which it is to he used. On the upper face of the plate it is provided with serrations l i "3, which extend diagonally across the plate,

and these serrations are crossed with further serratlons 3 also extending diagonally across thc plate7 but at the opposite angle Aserrations across each other the two sets of the upper face of the cutting face of* a double from the rst serrations, serraticns making plate similar to the cut bastard lile.

In operation, the plate is employed i'n con junction with a check book, being placed below the check which it is designed to fill out. A piece of indelible carbon paper 4 is placed on the upper face of the plate which contains the seri-ations 2 'and 3 in such a manner that its niarlting face will be against the bach of the check, as shown in Fig. if, The check 5 is then filled out preferably with an indelible pencil G, the teeth lett by the formation of the serrations 2 and 3 serving to puncture the check throughout the outline through which the pencil isimoved thereby leaving an irremovable inscription of the original filled out operation. The carbon paper 4 also serves to imprint on the back of the check the duplicate ci the words and figures inscribed on the face by the indelible pencil 6, and this imprint on the back may at any time be easily read by holding 'the check before a looking glass 1n which tlie reversed reproduction .of the inscription on the -lace may be easily read.

Having thus fully described this invention, what is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters-Patent, is

A check protector comprisinga work plate havingr one face formed with a plurality of at angles, and a marginal flange surrounding the plate and standing at right angles to the plane of the face of the plate, and an indelible carbon sheet resting upon the serrated face of the plate between the anges thereof, whereby when a check is placed on the carbon and an inscription made thereon by a marking implement the teeth formed by the Serrat-ions will puncture the check and the carbon to reproduce on the back of the check a duplication of the characters inscribed on the face.
