Description

UNITED STATES PATENT oninoa FOSTER MILLIKEN, OF LAWRENCE, NEW YORK.
Patented July 15, 1919.
ALLOY.
1 310,363, Specification of Letters Patent. No Drawing. Application filed August 29, 1918. Serial No. 251,942.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FOSTER-MILLIKEN, a citizen of the United States,-and a resident of Lawrence, county of Nassau, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Alloy, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This alloy differs from the alloy covered by my Patent No. 1,277,989 in that the quantity of iron present therein is higher in proportion than that which has been disclosed in the above-mentioned patent.
This alloy is characterized by its resisting qualities at high temperature, which renders the said alloy more suitable for molds for molten glass. It is further characterized by the ease with which it can be machined, and therefore it renders the formation of the molds comparatively inexpensive. The al- 10y contains the following metals in substantially the following proportions:
Copper 56-64 per cent. Nickel 13-17 Zinc 1045 Iron; 10-15 These metals are melted together and cast in the usual way and the alloy result ng therefrom possesses a peculiar non-oxachzmg quality. It is of the necessary density, has good machining qualities and efiectlvely radiates heat, thereby adapting the metal for work where high temperatures are present.
I claim:
An alloy formed from 56454 per cent. copper, 1317 per cent nickel, 10-15 per cent. zinc, and 10-15 per cent. iron.
FOSTER MILLIKEN.
