@MW W Mw/? ATTORNEY- LINUS T. HAGERMAN, OF SULLIVAN, ILLINOIS.
RADIATOR-HUMIDIFIER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 8, 1919.
Application filed May 25, 1917. Serial No. 170,956.
T0 all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, LiNUs T. Ham-miras', a citizen of the United States. residing at Sullivan, inthe county of Moultrie and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Radiator-Hundditiers, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention contemplates improvements in humidors or air moisteners primarilylesigned for attachment to radiators for humidifying the air of heated rooms.
The primary object of the present invention resides in the production of a device of the above stated character which is simple in construction, durable and eiiicient in use. and wherein means are employed for permitting the humidor to be expeditiously connected to or disconnected from the radiator, and one wheuein the same may be folded in compact form when not in use, to occupy but minimum space during the storage or transportation of the same.
Another object of my invention is to previde a device of this character wherein novel means are employed for saturating the moistener and preventing any of the fluid from the moistener from drlpping on the fioor.
lfVith the above and other objects in view, the invention -consists in the novel features, details of construction and combination of parts which Will hereinafter be more fully set forth, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and pointed out in the appended claim.
Figure 1 is a rear view of a radiator showing the humidor attached thereto for use; and
Fig. 2 is' a vertical sectional view of the humidor removed from the radiator.
Referring more particularly to the accompanying drawing in which like characters of reference refer to corresponding parts 'in the several views, 5 denotes the radiator having attached to the top thereof and at points adjacent to the opposite sides thereof a pair of resilient supporting members (l which are provided at their upper or inner lends with substantially U-shaped hooks 7 for supporting the humidor 8 on the rear face of the radiator, so that the humidor will not be visible. This humidor comprises an upper tank 9 of oblong rectangular form, 1n w nch water is placed` and a trough 10 which is suspended from the tank by flexible chains l1, the ends of the chains being attached to the ends of the tank and trough as shown.
A porous moistener 15 which is preferably a suitable absorbent fabric, is passed through a slot in one side wall of the tank 9. The ends of the said fabric are formed with a casing through which rods 14 extend, one of said reds. with one end of the fabric, be
`ing arranged in the tank t), while the opposite or lower end of the fabric is arranged together with the other rod, in the trough 10, so that the fabric is held in an extended position between the tank and trough, and at a point opposite the radiator. The fabric is moistened by the water which is soaked up from the tank J and is converted into vapor by the heat from the radiator, the dry air which passes over the moistening fabric serving to take up the moisture and distribute the same throughout the room, and thus moistening the heated atmosphere of the room and preventing the same from injuring the persons in the room.
The suspending chains and the, absorbent fabric enable the trough to be raised and placed on the tank when it is desired to suspend the operation of the apparatus, as will be understood.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the advantages of construction and the method of operation will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art to which the invention relates, and while I lnivedcscribcd the principles of operation of the invention, together with the device which I now consider to be the best embodiment thereof, 1 desire to have it understood that the device shown is merely illustrative,v and that such changes may be made when desired as are within the scope of the appended claim.
that is claimed as new isz* The herein described radiator humidifier comprising a supply tank having support ing rods at its ends, said rods ha ving hooks .to engage over sections of a radiator, a trough, chains suspending the trough from the supply; tank, rods extending lengthwise throughthe tank and the trough, an absorbent fabrio having its ends attached to said rods, said fabric passing over a Wall of the tank, said chains' and suspended LINUS T. HAGERMI'XN.
