IMPROVEMENT IN CHILL-PLATES AND FLASKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 130,926, dated August 27, 1872.
Specification describing an Improvement in Chill-Plate and Flask, invented by DENNIS LONG and SAMUEL A. MILLER, of Louisville, in the county of J efl'erson and State of Kentucky.

Our invention has for its object to improve the construction of the chill-plate and flask, such as are used for casting water and gas pipes vertically, so as to enable them to be closed or put together with accuracy and dispatch; and it consists in the combination of a projeotion'or projections, said projection or projections being either a circular ring or one or more segments of a circular ring, or one or more lugs having one or more bevel or straight faces cast, turned, or fitted true with the flask and chill-plates, as hereafter more fully described.
In Fig. 1, A represents the flask, which is made in two equal parts and connected together at one side by hinges. At bottom this flask is provided with a flange, O, which may be beveled at its periphery, as shown in Figs. 1 and 4, provided with lugs a, as shown in Fig. 2, or with a circular projection, asshown in Fig. 7. It will be obvious that these several forms of connection are but modifications of one idea, and that their object is to center and hold the flask and chill-plate in a certain fixed position relatively with each other, and to enable the former to be placed in position upon the latter with facility.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A chill-plate B and flask 0, con strueted with corresponding flanges, and held together as described.
