Description
J. FLETCHER.
Heaters for Curling -Tongs.
Pafented Aug. 27
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHNSON FLETCHER, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN HEATERS FOR CURLlNG-TONGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 130,911, dated August 27, 1872.
Specification describing a certain Improvement in Heaters for Curling-Tongs, invented by JOHNSON FLETCHER, residing in Cleveland, county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio.
In the annexed drawing, Figure 1 illustrates a vertical central section of my improved curlin g-ton gs heater and a side view of an ordinary kerosene -lamp with its chimney detached, showing one of the ways of heating said device, the latter being attached to said lamp and subjected to the heat of its flame, and Fig. 2 is a perspective View of my heater.
Similar letters of reference in both figures are used in the designation of identical parts.
This invention relates to an improved curling-tongs heater, which is of such a nature that it can be applied to an ordinarykerosenelamp or other similar source when it is desired to impart heat to .it 5 and it consists of a cylinder or other suitable case with its lower end left open, and having suspended withinjt two or more tubular or other suitably-shaped holders, substantially as hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the claim.
To enable others to make and use my invention I will proceed to describe it.
In the accompanying drawing, A refers to a cylinder made slightly tapering toward its lower or open end, and is represented as being applied to an ordinary kerosene-lamp, for the purpose of heating its tubes or holders; but it can be applied with equal facility to a gas-jet or other suitable source, for this purpose. B B refer to two tubes or holders, which are suspended from the top plate of the cylinder A within the same. These tubes extend downward to such a point as that their lower ends will rest a little distance above the flame of the heating medium, and at the same time, in such a manner as that they will be caused to converge together thereat, where they are suitably connected together in any known way, whereby the greatest amount of the surface of the said tube is exposed to the flame or heat thereof, insuring the thorough utilizing of the latter. These tubes or holders are for the purpose of receiving and holding the curling-ton gs when they are to be heated, and protect the same from the corrosive effect produced by exposure to the direct flame. C C refer to two orifices made in the top of the cylinder, and are for the purposes of permitting of the escape of smoke from and giving vent to the said cylinder or the heater.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The cylinder or case A, in combination with the tubes or holders B B, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
2. The case A, supplied with the smoke and vent apertures C C, and the tubes B B, substantially as shown and described.
v In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name this 24th dayof July, A. D. 1872, in
presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOHNSON FLETCHER.
